Mr Barry
They always say never judge a book by its cover or in this case a man, our B class 1969-70 form teacher. Mr Barry was such a person, from the outside very intimidating, at least to a then 12-13 year old, said to be an ex boxer or wrestler (certainly his nose had been broken at some time).

There was a softer side to him and a somewhat eccentric sense of humour, often when asked a question in class he would say

"Yes Dear Heart"

and then roll his eyes upwards whilst turning his hands to the right and clasping his hands together before replying.
Yes fitted in nicely with GST!

However he was not adverse to corporal punishment though and the gym shoe had plenty of use. I may be wrong but I never remember him hitting anybody around the head, preferring instead to jab you in the ribs with a very muscular finger - very effective I recall.

I always remember when we had films in the gym normally just before christmas  you know the thing "1001 ways to hang your coat up" and of course not forgetting the epic "How to Sharpen Pencils"

But one year Mr Barry chose the films, something youngsters might want to watch "The Munsters" and "Messoirs Hulots Holidays"
(a classic French comedy film) certainly more acceptable than the usual crap!

Made doubly so when Mr Herbert got up and walked out!

Not sure how long he was at the school but Billy Messruther a year below me cant remember him, it was said he moved to Australia or New Zealand Anyone out there know the answer?
