The nightdress hangs loosely from her body, Showing a glimpse of breast in sight. Will this lady make a great decision, And bare herself tonight? Looking blankly at the fireside, Hoping it will assist somehow with thought. Holding the note while she does, As an answer is sorely sought. Will the words change this time, And shall her lover write another way? But no, it's just the same, The written word is there to stay: "My darling Clarissa, we have grown so close, The time for love is here. I want us to join in bed, So I may take what you hold dear. I know that your maidenhead is a treasure, The prize valued most of all. But if you love me truly, Clarissa, Then summon me with your call," Clarissa walked around the room again, Her legs began to tire. Then decision shone brightly in her mind, And cast the note in the fire Clarissa knew that she was right, "I'll not be told or led. No man shall force me to surrender, My blessed maidenhead. When I see the man I love, I'll not need to think or wait. Then we shall be truly joined as one, On a very special date."

Below is a sequel poem, written by my friend Carole Johnson. It is a message that Clarissa in the above poem might have sent in reply.
The Missive
I didn't read those loving words which mean so very much, I read an ultimatum which contained no loving touch. If you truly loved me, sir, then surely you would wait, And not ask this maiden to release her virgin state. You would never send a missive for so a personal sign, You must love me from the heart before taking what is mine. You did not hold me in your arms nor show it in your eyes, You sent an ultimatum, you sent true love in disguise. I can read between the lines and I say this with a tear, You did not show true feelings, make the situation clear. Instead you forced the question and as if it was your right, You asked this virgin maiden will she come to you tonight. I now give you my answer, it is not what you desire, Your bold seductive missive is now ashes in my fire. NEVER!
