Fader Vaar
Some Day
Og Sorgen Stilnet I Smerlens Vann
This is Vaakevandring's demo album, produced by ex-Dimmu Borgir pianist/keyboardist, Stian Aarstad. The collection of songs are very folk-like, with a lot of clean vocals, but there is still plenty of atmospheric black metal here. Fader Vaar is the first track on the disc and it opens up with an atmospheric chorus, which is almost wind-like, before the guitars, drums, and clean vocals come in. Shortly thereafter, the black vocals come in for a bit, and then there is a woodwind solo before the clean vocals return. It basically cycles through this two times and it comes out as a very majestic and pretty song. Some Day opens up with extremely soft piano and various orchestral arrangements before it erupts into an atmospheric black metal opus, with an orchestral interlude thrown into the mix. Og Sorgen Stilnet I Smerlens Vann opens up with drums and the intro sounds very much like Dimmu Borgi, but when the main riff hits, they go back to their own sound. It also features an acoustic interlude, very pretty. This is a very good demo and the band was very promising. Too bad they hve not done much since. Grade B+
