| England is home to some of the greatest doom metal bands around. It is even the home of the fathers of doom, Black Sabbath. My Dying Bride ranks among the top of doom metal bands. Their release, Like Gods of the Sun, is a Gothic doom album, with hints of thrash and a medieval overtone. The opening track, Like Gods of the Sun, features some very heavy and atmospheric organs. The Dark Caress has the most medieval overtone to it, especially in a part that is dialogue with strings and snare in the background. For You is a very doomy song with a lot of atmospheric organ, violins, and great guitar work. Very dark. The prettiest song on the album is For My Fallen Angel. It is a very sad song, with violin and dialogue as the only instruments, about him losing the woman he loves because of death. There are two versions of the song It Will Come, the one being a nightmare version which is slower and a lot darker. This is a great album by these doom masters from England. Grade: A- | |||||||||||
