This is Morbid Angel's seventh full length, released in 2000 on Earache Records. It opens up with Kawazu, an intro track of an odd noise which then goes right into the pulsating track Summoning Redemption. This song features a very catchy main riff, superb drumming with a quick little solo about one-third of the way through it. Also, about two-thirds of the way through, the guitars break off into a melodic lead, then some good crazy, screaming lead, and they touch it off with a little more melodic lead, beautifully done. Opening of the Gates opens up with bone crunching guitar, pounding drums, and a little later on, a growl by Steve Tucker, after the vocals commence, Pete Sandoval goes into probably the fastest double bass I have ever heard, and the song also features another Pete Sandoval drum solo and superb growls. Featuring dualing vocals between Steve Tucker and Trey Azagthoth, Secured Limitations shreds into your ears and half of the song is blistering melodic lead guitar. The ending of the song flows artistically into the instrumental track The Awakening. This is an outstanding album performed by one of the masters of Death Metal. I highly recommend Gateways to Annihilation. Grade: A
