| This is a killer black metal album which was released this year. Sons of Northern Darkness takes you on a cold ride through a metal blizzard. The title track opens up with a quick drum solo and features a very catchy riff. Tyrants starts of with a slow, melodic riff and the entire song is a slow, hard hitting opus, a very good track. There is some good double bass work that comes in near the end before going back into the main riff. The track In My Kingdom Cold is a great track. Very nice guitar playing, and drumwork by Horgh. Chilling deep within the bones, Antarctica, tells a tale of the dark, frozen continent. Telling a tale of Norsemen from old, who sailed in the legendary Viking longboats, Beyond the North Waves, almost places you in a longboat, prepared to raid a village. The guitar work, drumming, and drive of the song are amazing, done very well. The entire album features good crunchy catchy guitar riffs, with some galloping, some good drumming, and Abbath has crisp, clear black vocals, so they are still dirty and throaty, but you can understand him.
