James Everton was recruited to MI5 from Oxford in the ‘Seventies.  Naively thinking he was going on daring-do missions with the Secret Service, he ended up in Buckingham Palace.  There he encountered the royal family, made reports on them, checked security and observed some interesting activities.

James discovered a number of covered up scandals.  For instance; Lord Mountbatten’s alleged pedophile activity, the strange activities of Edward and Mrs. Simpson, Prince Philip’s vice and Nazi connections, Princess Margaret’s nervous breakdown and drug use.

In later years there came into Buckingham Palace a naive young woman called Lady Diana Spencer.  Yet within a short period of time she changed things in the Palace that few could have foreseen.

Annabelle, an ex-colleague who James had always loved, asked if he could get her a job.  He obtained her one on Diana’s staff in Kensington Palace.  Now a book he was secretly writing on the royal family could also contain inside information on Diana.  They became closer over the years, culminating in their marriage.  Yet for another couple life was falling apart.

Diana and Charles’ life was becoming a nightmare.  Both began affairs and together they seemed bent on self-destruction.  Annabelle, being human liked to unload the stress of her job by talking about the two royals.  Unknown to her James was there, pen poised.

Being professionally paranoid he’d taken to writing it all down in a flat he’d secretly rented.  His friend Reynolds, in MI6, fed him information for his book; things James could find nowhere else.  Some concerned Diana, which is how Reynolds eventually warned James to distance himself from the princess.  Something was going to happen.

Annabelle forgave James for the odd criticism of the royal family, yet when she found a key to a flat one day, events changed.  In fact, from then on things began to go wrong for everyone.  Diana, James and others became caught in an endgame of someone else’s making.

Based on verifiable facts leading up to the tragic events in Paris, the book is full of fascinating information about the present royal family.  Some myths will be shattered and reputations ruined, keeping the reader captivated with the revelations in Those Who Killed Diana.
