Words

Words spoken in haste
True friendships lay waste,
Check them ere from your lips they fall,
For once they are sent
Like money that’s spent
We can never such words recall.

An innocent thought
Admittedly not
Expressed in a dignified way;
But to call it back
The power we lack:
Be careful friend just what you say.

You may mean no harm,
But still lack the charm
To say it in a way that’s kind;
So my word for you
Is think all things through,
Lest your dear friends you leave behind.
