“It
is finished,” the Savior cried,
As on
the Cross He hung and died;
“The
Father’s work I now have done”,
For
us the victory He won!
Into
a world of sin and shame
God’s
only begotten Son came,
The
form of a servant He took,
And
Heaven’s Glory He forsook.
He chose
not an angel to be,
But
flesh and blood, like you and me,
In all
things God’s Will He obeyed:
That
by Him sin’s price might be paid!
“It is
finished,” the Savior cried,
As on
the Cross He hung and died;
“The
Father’s work I now have done”,
For
us the victory He won!
In wisdom
and stature He grew,
In all
He was faithful and true.
He had
favor with God and men
Because
He committed no sin.
To John
He came to be baptized,
His
cousin fully realized
The
greatness of God’s Holy Lamb:
As he
immersed the Great I Am!
“It is
finished,” the Savior cried,
As on
the Cross He hung and died;
“The
Father’s work I now have done”,
For
us the victory He won!
Forty
days He fasted and prayed,
His
duty He did not evade;
Before
Him the tempter then stood:
Still,
He did ev’rything He should.
His
body was weak and weary,
The
prospects so bleak and dreary;
But
in nothing He turned aside,
In all
things the tempter denied!
“It is
finished,” the Savior cried,
As on
the Cross He hung and died;
“The
Father’s work I now have done”,
For
us the victory He won!
On the
Mount He stood with the three,
What
a vision God let them see!
Elias
and Moses appeared,
As the
mystery then was cleared:
From
Heaven then thundered a voice:
Giving
all men cause to rejoice.
“Jesus
is My beloved Son!”
The
work of redemption’s begun.
“It is
finished,” the Savior cried,
As on
the Cross He hung and died;
“The
Father’s work I now have done”,
For
us the victory He won!
By one
of His own forsaken,
With
whom He’d often partaken
Of the
blessings along the way…
So far
from the fold he did stray!
The
kiss of betrayal received,
The
multitude by sin deceived,
They
cried, “Crucify… crucify…”
Could
they… did they even know why???
“It is
finished,” the Savior cried,
As on
the Cross He hung and died;
“The
Father’s work I now have done”,
For
us the victory He won!
To the
Cross the Savior was led,
To hang
there until He was dead;
A man
Who had known not one sin,
Felt
the nails pierce His fragile skin.
A crown
of thorns placed on His head,
As for
sin His blood then He shed.
All
the Father gave Him to do
Was
done and His life here was through.
“It is
finished,” the Savior cried,
As on
the Cross He hung and died;
“The
Father’s work I now have done”,
For
us the victory He won!
Ne’er
did such love and sorrow meet,
As it
seemed He suffered defeat;
None
His holy Name defended:
Alone
on the Cross suspended…
For
our sins what an awful cost!
For
the Lord it seemed all was lost…
The
One Who for us did the most
Cried
out and then gave up the ghost.
“It is
finished,” the Savior cried,
As on
the Cross He hung and died;
“The
Father’s work I now have done”,
For
us the victory He won!
“Thine
Holy One” three days did stay
In the
tomb locked “safely” away;
Then
came the women to prepare
His
body, but – He was not there!
The
angels said, “He’s gone away!
But
for you He will come some day!”
Up from
the grave the Lord arose!
Eternal
life He now bestows!
“It is
finished,” the Savior cried,
As on
the Cross He hung and died;
“The
Father’s work I now have done”,
For
us the victory He won!
