This
much you really should know,
As now
on life’s way you go:
Not
all days will be bright and cheery;
I’d
say so if it were true,
But
I will not lie to you:
Sometimes
you will be tired and weary.
What
you control is one thing,
To it
your very best bring,
Thus
will all be just as it should be;
That
over which you’ve no say
Just
may not work out your way,
Do your
best and from the guilt you’re free.
You cannot
do for others,
Be they
sisters or brothers,
What
God has charged those others to do;
Each
person will stand or fall,
When
God judges great and small,
On this
question: “To God was he true?”
When
things don’t work out your way,
Yet
– the price you’re forced to pay,
Just
remember, friend, that heaven waits…
In heaven
He’s watching you,
So do
what is yours to do,
It won’t
matter when you reach those gates!
Be careful
to watch and pray,
His
ev’ry command obey,
What
else could there be to trouble you?
On the
“mark” now set your eyes,
And
through it all realize:
There
is sweet rest when this life is through!
Some
things may be hard, I know,
For
friend, I have found it so,
But
if you will try you can succeed;
Resolve
to do what is right,
Be guided
by heaven’s light,
The
Lord will supply whate’er you need.
