“Father, Forgive Them…”

“Father, forgive… they know not what they do…”
 Was His most fervent plea;
His heart was broken for me and for you,
 He died to set us free!

His duty to the Father behooved Him
 To rescue us from sin;
His pity for sinners surely moved Him
 To die there for all men.

“Father, forgive… they know not what they do…”
 Was His most fervent plea;
His heart was broken for me and for you,
 He died to set us free!

No sinful word had He in life spoken,
 He did not one thing wrong;
In all His deeds not one law was broken,
 In faith He pressed along.

“Father, forgive… they know not what they do…”
 Was His most fervent plea;
His heart was broken for me and for you,
 He died to set us free!

They railed on Him at the foot of His Cross,
 They mocked and wagged their heads;
For poor sinful man He suffered such loss:
 They wanted Jesus dead.

“Father, forgive… they know not what they do…”
 Was His most fervent plea;
His heart was broken for me and for you,
 He died to set us free!

As He looked upon the people that day
 His own from Him withdrew;
“Father, forgive… take their sins all away…
 They know not what they do.”

“Father, forgive… they know not what they do…”
 Was His most fervent plea;
His heart was broken for me and for you,
 He died to set us free!

Where would we be without what He did then?
 Who’d take our sins away?
Think of what He did to save you from sin!
 Come to the Lord today!

“Father, forgive… they know not what they do…”
 Was His most fervent plea;
His heart was broken for me and for you,
 He died to set us free!
