Ways to Evangelize

Our Lord told the apostles, "...All authority hath been given unto me in heaven and on earth.  Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit:  teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you:  and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world" (Matthew 28:18-20, ASV).  The command to "go and make disciples of all the nations" is enjoined initially upon the apostles, but is also transferred to us by the command to "teach them all things whatsoever I commanded you", as he had just commanded them to "...go..."  Therefore, it is our duty to "make disciples of" or "teach" (KJV) everyone we can.  The question should follow, then, as to how this may be done.  We herein suggest a few of the methods or ways of evangelizing this world.

BY THE USE OF RELIGIOUS TRACTS WE CAN EVANGELIZE THE WORLD.  Many have written tracts which are literally filled with the truth of God, and they have been written to lead the lost to the way of life.  PERRY B. COTHAM has written many excellent tracts, including:  THE THIEF ON THE CROSS, CONVERSION, MUST ONE BE A MEMBER OF THE CHURCH TO BE SAVED, THE HOLY SPIRIT IN CONVERSION, UPON THIS ROCK, THE VINE AND THE BRANCHES, THE EVIDENCE OF PARDON, BIBLE BAPTISM, THE NEW BIRTH, "THE UNPARDONABLE SIN", THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST, FAITH AND OPINION, AFTER DEATH -- WHAT THEN, IS THE BIBLE FROM GOD OR MEN?, THE BIBLE -- GOD'S INSPIRED BOOK VERSUS DIRECT HOLY SPIRIT GUIDANCE, AND RECEIVING ETERNAL LIFE.  Each of these tracts is filled with the truth, presented in love and purity, designed to lead the lost to Christ, the last two listed, being new, are truly excellent works.  We have some of these in the tract rack at the building and are in the process of re-stocking the others.  [Should you desire to order a copy of any or all from the publisher, send 35¢ for a single copy, $4.00 for a dozen, $25.00 for 100, or $225.00 for 1,000 to PERRY B. COTHAM, 1814 Santa Cruz, Grand Prairie, Texas 75051).  Many other men have penned great works, and we should take them to our friends and neighbors and study with them.  This is one great way to evangelize.

BY THE USE OF OUR BULLETIN WE CAN EVANGELIZE THE WORLD.  Our church bulletin, THE ENON ENDEAVOR, is filled with a Bible message each week.  We instruct men and women in the way of salvation on the front cover, also giving them some facts about the church of the Bible.  We reason from the scriptures within it to show men and women what their responsibilities to God and their fellow man are.  We can take the bulletin to those who do not receive it, and we can add the names of our friends and families to the mailing list so that they can get it each week.  Our articles are able to be used freely by all who desire, provided they do not change or alter them (although other churches of Christ or papers may delete references to ENON in an attempt to make the article apply to all churches of Christ for use in their area or in the world in general).  We encourage the proliferation of our bulletin among all people as a means of evangelizing.

WE CAN EVANGELIZE BY USING THE PRINTED PRESS IN GENERAL.  We run an article in the ASHFORD POWER each week, filled with Bible.  The design is to instruct men and women in the way of life.  We have sought to, (and I believe succeeded) teach the gospel of Jesus Christ.  It has not been our desire to paint the church as "another denomination", for we are not "another denomination".  Denominations exist without the authority or approval of Christ.  We have striven to declare "the old paths" (Jeremiah 6:16).  Talk this good work up, tell others about it, clip it out and use it to teach others on specific topics, as we have (and continue to) covered many "controversial" and distinctive issues.

WE CAN EVANGELIZE BY USING OUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED SERVICES.  Tell others about and invite them to attend Bible class and Worship.  In each class and worship period we will teach the Bible.  We offer Book, Chapter, and Verse to prove every point, and we lovingly and boldly call men to obedience.

WE CAN USE OUR BIBLE CLASS MATERIAL TO EVANGELIZE.  We write and print all of our material (for the adult class), and it covers a great and wide spectrum of areas.  Ask your friends and family to study with you using these materials as the guide.  Again, each lesson is designed to affirm and prove a point, and each point is proven with the Bible.  We have sought to teach no more than God teaches, and no less.

WE CAN EVANGELIZE BY USING OUR NEW TELEVISION PROGRAM.  Each Tuesday at 7:00 P.M. we plan to record a lesson for broadcast on GRACEBA CABLE CHANNEL 6.  The show is to air on Thursday at 7:00 P.M.  The taping will be open to the church and the public, and each lesson will be Bible-based and Bible-filled.  Invite others to come to the taping and tell others about the broadcast.  You may well be giving them the chance at eternal life they need...

WHATEVER MEANS WE USE, LET US USE A MEANS AND EVANGELIZE THE WORLD.  No person can be saved apart from Christ, and Christ must be preached to them and they must obey him in order to effect the salvation.  Not everyone can stand before an audience and eloquently present a sermon, but everyone can ask others to come and hear one eloquently presented by another.  Not everyone can write an article, but everyone can take an article to someone that was written by another.  Like Paul told Timothy, "And the things which thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also...Preach the word" (II Timothy 2:1-2, 4:2, ASV).

HAS ANYONE TOLD YOU OF THE WONDERFUL SALVATION IN CHRIST?  Christ calls for all to "come unto..." him (Matthew 11:28-30).  He demands that we come in faith (Hebrews 11:6, John 8:24), repenting of our sins (Acts 17:30-31, Luke 13:3), confessing him before others (Acts 8:37), and being immersed in water unto the remission of sins (Acts 2:38 ASV, 22:16).  He then calls for fidelity in all areas of life even to the point of death (Revelation 2:10).  Have you obeyed the gospel?  Are you being faithful?  If not, call on us at the Enon church of Christ.
