Good Morning: It's
Wednesday February 28, 2001!
BIRTHDAYS: Geraldine Farrar, 1854; Linus
Pauling, 1901; Jimmy Dorsey, 1904; Vincente Minnelli, 1913; Zero Mostel,
1915; Charles Durning, 1923; Gavin MacLeod, 1930; Tommy Tune, 1939; Mario
Andretti, 1940; Bernadette Peters, 1944; Charles "Bubba" Smith, 1945; Cristina
Raines, 1952.
ENON BIRTHDAY: C.J. Smith!
THIS DAY IN HISTORY:
On this date in 1854 the Republican Party officially
organized at Ripon, WI.
On this date in 1983 Hawkeye Pierce, B.J. Hunnicut
and the rest of the 4077 struck their tents and hit the road in the final
episode of "M*A*S*H". It registered one of the highest ratings ever
as 77 out of 100 people watching their TV at the time tuned in.
MEANINGLESS FACTS: Prop glass in the movies
is made out of boiled sugar water and corn syrup, the same as many lollipops...
Jack Nicholson single-handedly rescued five drowning people from the New
Jersey surf back in the fifties... The first drive-in theater was opened
in 1932 in Camden, New Jersey.
TRIVIA: Why was the birthright of Reuben,
firstborn of Israel (Jacob), taken from him and given to the sons of Joseph?
Did you know that M*A*S*H
stand for Mobile Army Surgical Hospital? It does. Many people
objected to the show, thinking that it was anti-America, or against our
efforts in the Korean conflict; having seen it, however, I believe that
it was anti-war -- something we all are, at least usually. I would
rather see conflicts settled peacefully, and I believe that every effort
should be expended to avoid armed conflict. If, however, every effort
fails, then armed conflict is a proper option. Just a bit of opinion
to start your Wednesday off right...

From a friend: Last words of famous people
Bruce, Robert, King of Scotland (1274-1329) "Now,
God be with you, my dear children. I have breakfasted with you and
shall sup with my Lord Jesus Christ." The grandfather of Robert Bruce
lost his claim to be King of Scotland in 1292 in a succession suit decided
by King Edward I of England. During the following decade, Bruce repeatedly
switched his loyalty between the Scottish independence and the king.
Following the execution of the Scottish national hero, William Wallace,
in 1305, Bruce committed himself to the Scottish cause and murdered his
old enemy, John Comyn, King Edward's choice to assume the Scottish throne.
The next Spring, Bruce was crowned at Scone and began an eight year military
campaign to win back independence that culminated with the historic English
defeat at Bannockburn in 1314. He spent most of his remaining life
fighting the English in Ireland and along the Scottish border until England
formally recognized an independent Scotland in 1328. Upon his death,
he was succeeded by his son, David II.

Those of you who have been married a while can
relate to the above. Even if your relationship has improved through
the years, there was something about those early years -- the excitement
and thrill of first falling in love -- that causes you to look back with
a sigh. One of the secrets of a successful marriage is found in striving
to recapture the excitement of those early years in the midst of our commitment
to longevity. That's also one of the secrets of living the Christian life.
If you've been a Christian for a number of years, chances are you can look
back at the time when you first "fell in love" with Christ. There
was an excitement that accompanied the newness of your Christian life.
But, the newness wore off and, after a while, Christian living may have
become somewhat mundane. We need to strive to recapture the excitement
of those early years in the midst of our commitment to longevity. "Nevertheless
I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember therefore
from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works...." (Rev. 2:4-5a).
It is important that we remember and recapture that excitement of being
a child of God -- the feeling of being cleansed of sin, the desire to share
our excitement with everyone else we know, the intention to do everything
we can to serve the One we love with all our hearts. May you never lose
that first love. But, if you have lost it, may you seek to recapture
it. Have a great day! Alan Smith

From a friend: If the Devil were to write
his Beatitudes, they would probably go something like this:
Blessed are those who are too tired, too busy,
too distracted to spend an hour once a week with their fellow Christians
in Church ~ they are my best workers.
Blessed are those Christians who wait to be asked
and expect to be thanked ~ I can use them.
Blessed are the touchy, with a bit of luck they
may stop going to church ~ they are my missionaries.
Blessed are those who are very religious but
get on everyone's nerves ~ they are mine forever.
Blessed are the troublemakers ~ they shall be
called my children.
Blessed are those who have no time to pray ~
they are easy prey for me.
Blessed are the gossipers ~ for they are my secret
agents.
Blessed are those critical of church leadership
~ for they shall inherit a place with me in my fate.
Blessed are the complainers ~ I'm all ears for
them.
Blessed are you when you read this and think
it is
about other people and not yourself ~ I've got
you.
