“Tarry
here”, he told the three,
“Tarry
here, and wait for me.
Won’t
you now my burden share?
As I
go to God in prayer.”
Off He
went to pray alone
Feeling
grief like none has known,
Teary
eyes and broken heart
Knowing
He would soon depart.
Unto
God His voice He raised,
As His
eyes t’word Heaven gazed:
“Let
this cup from me pass by,
Save
me now ere I should die;
If there
be some other way
Then
O God, this I do pray:
Save
me from the awful loss
Of a
death upon a cross.
But if
there be found no way
Then
O God, this I do pray:
Father,
let Thy will be done…
E’en
with me, Thine only Son…”
Other
ways He did not find,
To His
fate He was resigned;
Even
He could not forestall
Cruel
death that comes to all.
Knowing
time was drawing near,
He returned
to those held dear;
Those
who of all men below
He allowed
with Him to go.
Those
who’d seen His mighty pow’r,
Could
not wait with Him one hour:
How
it moved the Lord to weep
When
He found them all asleep.
