1st Reflective Note
Actually, I wasn’t really sure about taking course since my knowledge about computer. Is quite little, so I thought I might be left behind that my other friends. At the first time I thought I would face many problems here. Then, my friend who has taken this course convinced me that the class would be very fun. She said Call is very important to learn because now we live in a modern era and technology has role. Moreover she said that I can have an experience in teaching by using CALL.
Coming in the first meeting of this class made me nervous because I was totally blind what I had to do here. Then, the teacher came and opened the class with interesting topic. It made me more relax to follow the class and helped to forget my fear of this class. I like the teacher so much because she has a good skill on computer and many experience that she want to share to us. Afterwards explaining about the course, we come up with a definition about CALL. Firstly, we had a group discussions in my conclusion CALL (Computer – Assisted Language Learning) is a teaching and learning method in which computer technology play as an important role to develop computer applications for teaching and Learning Language. As a result, Language Learning will be more attractive, interesting and effective.
I found the topics in this class very interesting. Moreover, when I know that we can access internet from here. This is very interesting class we can do anything what we want as long as not open site porn. The annoying thing was when the access is very low. It makes us stuck. From what I have learnt in this class, nothing is useless. All of the material and knowledge that I got will be very useful in the future. For instance, I can share and get a lot of new useful experience from this class.
2nd Reflective Note
For mailing list project, I was so confused because each of us should join one of the mailing lists and picked two topics. What we should do then is to summarize the discussion. Honestly, I had some trouble joining the mailing list because this something new for me. My teacher said if I haven’t got to replay in two weeks after subscription, there must be in trouble. I checked my email everyday but I got nothing, I was so scared at the time. I kept asking to my friend that they have got a replay or not. Finally, I got many replies after there weeks.
I also felt rather confused in choosing the topics because there were lots of topics available. Then, I decide to take about “scoring students” and “Unique Free Write Prompts”. Here, I found much new information from many sources and the experts about what we have to be considered in scoring students. Further more, the expect also give interesting suggestions to give an attractive way in writing class these information will be very beneficial for me if I become a teacher one day.
From what I have learnt, Joining Mailing List can be very helpful if we need some information about particular things. Here, I realize that there are a lot of kinds of new things that I never knew before.
3rd Reflective Note
In the regular class, the teacher discussed about the evaluation of CALL and website evaluation. Here, we worked in a grove of four and analyzed a particular website available in the Internet. We had to determine whether this website is appropriate for doing activities in class or not. We also had to consider it is reliable or not, it is downloadable or not and so fort. This is very useful for us if we want to apply what the website has in our teaching activity.
On the other hand, making a website is also not as simple as I thought before. I was surprised when the teacher asked the student to make a website through Microsoft Word. When it came up in my mind, I had no idea about that because I just knew that we can create a website by using Microsoft Word. After we tried, it was interesting we could design our own website with our creativity and imagination.
The difficult part of making this was when we had to upload the web. The fact, it was really complicated although we had followed the instructions. We had to be careful to choose what kind of stuff that we want to be included in our web. I failed in uploading the web for there two times. I couldn’t see anything in web page except the blank page. What annoying!! What’s wrong!! I tried to upload again but there was no result. Fortunately I have a friend from Information Technology Faculty who helped me much on this. He thought me and accompanied me till I could upload mine successfully at last. It was pretty hard but I got many advantages from all of this.
