Mitsukake has the power to heal and even drive demons out of a persons body. He is the sixth of the Suzaku Seishi to appear.
When Miaka and the other Seishi's heard about a woman in the northern village of Choko who can raise dead people, they wondered if this woman named Shoka is a Suzaku Seishi. A dreadful disease named Shikkonki is

already plaguing the small city and unfortunately Miaka caught this disease. It has no cure. The only way to fight it is to die and be raised up again by Shoka. But the Seishi's didn't agree to this. So upon learning of the healer named Myojuan, they went and asked for his help but he refuse to do so. Begging for the second time around, they mentioned the name of Shoka. Hearing her name, Mitsukake agreed to help them. He cured Miaka and drive out the demon possessing Shoka's body. It turns out that Shoka was Mitsukake's lover a long time ago. She is the daughter of the Souen Landlord. Because of his healing power he became the doctor of that little city. Knowledge about his power spread far and wide. Many people came to him to be cured. He then began to travel to different places to heal the sick. During one of his journeys, Shoka fell ill and died before he could even return to cure her. This led to his solitude life, not wanting to see nor speak to anyone. He mourned the death o his love one for a long time, never wanting to use his healing power again, until he met Miaka and the other Seishi's.
With the help and guidance of his new friends, Mitsukake finally accepted the death of Shoka although until now, his love for his dead lover remains. And at this point in time he's starting his life again as a Suzaku Seishi dedicated to serve and protect the Suzaku No Miko.
