| Hotohori is the Emperor of Konan Country who, because of his unusual beauty, was sometimes mistaken to be a woman. He is the second of the Suzaku Seishi to appear. Miaka was having an argument with Tamahome at that moment, asking him to help her. But Tamahome woldn't do so except if Miaka will pay him for his services. And as fate would have it, Hotohori's carriage came parading with his soldiers. Tamahome |
| then told Miaka to go and ask the Emperor for one of his gems attached in the crown so that she can have something to pay him. Without thinking, Miaka hurriedly run towards the carriage and asked the emperor if she could please give her at least one gem. The soldiers then attacked her, even Tamahome was caught off guard. Suddenly a red light engulfed both of them. Upon seeing this, Hotohori then ordered his soldiers to bring both Miaka and Tamahome in the palace. Inside the palace, Miaka tried to escape along with Tamahome. They were separated while running and while wandering around the palace, she came upon Hotohori (who is so beautiful that Miaka had mistaken him for a woman). And so they talked for a while. Hotohori then revealed to Miaka that she was the chosen Suzaku No Miko. He asks her to accept the task of protecting Konan from the Kutou country which Miaka readily agreed upon. Hotohori is a skilled swordsman, who is also deeply in love with Miaka. He believes that only the Suzaku No Miko can make him happy. As a child, he already longed for the day when the Suzaku No Miko would arrive in Konan. But when he learned that Miaka is in love with Tamahome,he was hurt so much that he challenged Tamahome for a fight which the latter declined. But after seeing that Miakas's happiness lies with Tamahome, Hotohori finally accepted the truth. Together with the other Suzaku Seishi, Hotohori vowed to protect and Miaka and save the Konan country from the evil wrath og Kotou. |
