Spell Preparation |
| Working magick in the right frame of mind is very important make sure: |

| Altars |
| An Altar is a small table which you dedicate to your magick. It should be somewhere you will not be disturbed and can work in peace. It is suggested on your altar you have a representation of the four elements. You should be able to walk around it to cast your circle. (So it might be an idea to keep it in a corner and move it into the middle of the room during spell work) Also try and have something which reminds you of the god/goddess. This could be an appriopriately coloured candle, statue, picture. On your altar you can keep anything which has special significance to you. You can keep tools on your altar but this isn't essential as long as they're near by while performing a spell. |
| Casting a Circle |
| Circles are cast to protect the witch and to ensure all energy is safely controlled until its ready to be released. You don't have to work within a circle but most witches do. There are a variety of ways to cast a circle but this is my preferred method. Have a candle in each compass direction (white or an appropriate colour) and a circle of stones. Stand in the East and say 'Come Air from the East, help me and protect me' Imagine associations with air, for example strong winds or gentle breezes. Spend a while meditating on the element and then imagine a yellow stream of energy coming towards you. Repeat this in each corner of the circle. (South fire red, West water blue, North earth green). Then spend a while imagining all four of the elements coming together. With this elemental energy walk around the cirlce (clockwise) imagining its energy and your own forming a large white/clear bubble around. Some people prefer using the idea of mist flowing out from your hands down into the circle shape. Do this three times round the circle. Then you are ready to call upon any deities or other figures you wish to use in your spell. |
| Preparing your mind |
| Sit for a few minutes firstly quieting your mind. Do this by focusing on your breathing. Work your way through your body starting at your feet. Make yourself aware of how you feel and let mind worries disappear. Once your mind is calm and clear bring up images and thoughts which are relevant to the spell. For example if its for another person imagine that person in front of you. Spend a lot of time of visualisation during your spell work. If through the spell you find your thoughts wonder take a few moments to compose yourself before carring on:- it is important not to work with your mind else where! |
