Evidence of James Hudgens being the son of Robert Hudgens rather than John Hudgens and Martha Holloway based on deeds. The son of John Hudgens and Martha Holloway, James, married Lukey/Luzey ___ and lived on a branch of Muddy Creek in Northern Cumberland County. Robert Hudgens and his children, Moses, Ambrose, James, Holloway, and John lived in the same area as their father, Robert Hudgens, namely Horn Quarter Creek and Run and also Bear Creek. Horn Quarter Creek is located in the central west portion of Cumberland County, Virginia.

The above linked deed shows that James Hudgens was living in Buckingham County, Virginia when he sold the 175 acres to Notley Maddox. The 175 acres on Horn Quarter Creek matches the location of the 175 acres Robert Hudgens sold to his son James for five shilling (deed of gift). Of special note, Holloway and Gabriel Hudgens signed as witnesses to the Notley Maddox deed.

The 1794 deed, linked above, shows that James Hudgens was living in Buckingham County at the time of sale. The below grant shows when James Hudgens may have moved across Willis River to live in Buckingham County, Virginia.
