SATA Decathlon
Jury of Appeals Members
As a new member of the Jury of Appeals for the Shenendehowa Amateur Track Association Decathlon I feel that some planning and development changes need to be addressed. It has come to my attention that an event such as the SATA Decathlon requires a minimal finical commitment, which at past events has been fully covered by the commissioners John Lynch and Sam Silver. I believe that it is time to distribute these costs over a greater number of people, so as to reduce the burden on any one individual.
I propose two distinct plans to levy funds for SATA Decathlon costs; costs such as awards, measuring/timing equipment, and website services.
The first plan would create a ‘Board of Trustees’ or ‘Benefactors Group’; this select group would be expected to donate a nominal amount towards the costs of the SATA Decathlon. The creation of this group would be based off of the current Jury of Appeals, with an acceptance process for new members. Based on several conversations with SATA and non-SATA people alike, I have arrived at a thirty-dollar donation figure for each member of this “Board” or “Group.” The donation amount is not really the key argument here; it can be amended as deemed appropriate. What I am asking you to consider is: “Should a direct donation organization be set up in order to fund the SATA?”
A more mainstream and common suggestion would be to ask every competitor in the decathlon to “donate” a few dollars to offset the SATA costs. This option is fairly self-explanatory; the only thing I will add is that the “donation” should probably not exceed three or four dollars.
I would hope at this time that you would have an opinion on both of these plans, and that one of the commissioners would set up a vote by the Jury of Appeals for these plans. These are just my thoughts on the situation, and thank you for you time.
Sincerely,

Sean O'Brien
