1999 1st ever Shenendehowa Amateur Decathlon

The meet was a very slow moving meet since it was the first meet held ever by SATA. Despite that, everyone had a good time. The winner of the 110HH was Mark Gaedje in a time of 18.3 seconds. Then in the next event, the long jump, John won with a leap of 16'1". The third event was the 100m dash, which was one by Sam Silver in a blazing 11.5 seconds. The next event was the discus where Paul Pipino, the one event man, won in a stunning throw of 107'. However, this throw does not count in the record books do to USATF Decathlon rules, which state that every person must make an attempt at every event in order for a record to count in the records and final scoring. The fifth event, was the 400m dash, John won this event in a dismal time of 57.3. The following event was the shot put. Sam Silver out threw thrower Paul Pipino to win that event in 29'5". John Lynch won the next event, the 800m run, in 2:09. The next event was the 200m dash also won by Sam Silver in a 25.3. In the triple jump John Lynch won in a 34' hop, skip and jump. In the last event, the steeplechase, pitted steeple veteran Mark Gaedje was up against newcomer John Lynch. John blew him away with a 6:57.9 final time beating the second place competitor, Mark Gaedje, by over 30 seconds.

2000 2nd Annual Shenendehowa Amateur Decathlon

The second meet promised to be better then the first one due to officials, better scoring, and more competitors. Unfortunately John Lynch, one of the co-founders, was injured and had to drop out after the 200m dash. He was able to set a meet record in the triple jump though with a mark of 35'6". Sam on the other hand was not injured, and he showed up in full force with his shades on and ready to take out anyone who got in his way. He claimed 3 records that day, 100m (11.4), 200m (23.8), shot put (30'4"). Unfortunately, Sam was not expecting Andy Streett to come ready to rumble, who also claimed 3 records that day; the 200m (23.8), long jump (17'5"), and discus (90'). And in the end Andy Streett took the cup, top of a fence post. Other winners were Darryl Slater fresh off of his stunning 2000 campaign in indoor and outdoor track, ran a 2:08 800m to break John's old record of 2:09. Another winner and record breaker was Erik Ela in 54.3 for the 400m dash. Also scoring a win and a record was Mark Gaedje in the event that he seems to dominate quite handily, the 110HH in 17. 7 seconds. An honorable mention in this meet was the effort of John Pulcher showed up unexpectadely and shocked the field by running barefoot on the hot track like the Olympic gold medalist in the marathon, Abebe Bikila. The decathlon was then re-held a few weeks later when John's heel bruise was better. John re-gained his championship, scoring a record in the 1500m, and the triple jump.
