Pastor Derrick LaMart Miles

Derrick LaMart Miles was born July 24, 1968, in the Grace Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, as the youngest of three children (Gerald Lorenzo and Janet Lorraine), born to the union of John Modest and Jeanette Richard Miles.

Derrick Miles was reared in Little Rock, Arkansas, as a preacher's kid who loved to sneak in the pulpit behind his daddy and follow him around to various churches.  Many of the brethren and sisters of the Liberty Hill Baptist Church knew that the Lord had a special call upon the life of this preacher's child.

The third Sunday in April of 1988, Mr. Miles made a formal announcement about the call of God on his life and May 15, 1988, Derrick Miles preached his first sermon. After his initial sermon, he was licensed by the Morning Star Baptist Church of Kansas City, Missouri.

After accepting the call, Rev. Miles enrolled at the Arkansas Baptist College where he majored in Secondary Education-Social Studies and matriculated at this institution of higher learning until May of 1991, when he received His Bachelor of Science Degree and graduated Magna Cum Laude.  During his matriculation at Arkansas Baptist College, Rev. Miles pledge Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, and was vice president of the Student Body.

With a thirst for more Biblical truths, Rev. Miles moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where he enrolled at the Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. After averaging 44 credit hours for two years, Rev. Miles graduated Cum Laude in 1993, with a Master's of Divinity Degree.

After graduating from Seminary, Rev. Miles continued as the Youth Pastor of the Morning Star Baptist Church and he began his tenure as a certified teacher in the Kansas City, Missouri School District.  In January of 1996, Rev. Miles was called to Pastor the True Victory Baptist Church of Kansas City, Kansas. Under his leadership, True Victory grew spiritually, financially and numerically. Pastor Miles resigned his post as a Resource Teacher and Pastor of True Victory in August of 1998.

Pastor Miles accepted the call to come to Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in July of 1998.  Under the leadership of Pastor Miles, Greater Friendship continues to move aggressively forward as a vital and viable church for the most High God. Under the leadership of Pastor Miles, Greater Friendship has grown numerically, financially and spiritually.   We have remodeled the choir stand and pulpit area of our church, added a parking lot, resurfaced an old lot, designed and prepared a Conference Room, remodeled our activity center, enhanced our office suite, developed a clothes and food closet for the neighborhood, started a game room, added a computer lab, developed a tutorial ministry, modernized our church offices. We now have a website www.geocities.com/gr8terfriendship), developed many new ministries and set forth a plan to pay off our mortgage in one third of the time previously planned.  If we continue to follow the leadership of our pastor as he follows the Lord, we will continue to attempt great things for God. We have demolished our apartment building and added a parking lot to park about 100 cars. Over 300 new members have joined our church under Paster Miles’ leadership.

Pastor Miles has received his Doctor of Ministry Degree from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, and is married to the former Veronica Renee Seewright. He has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Simmons Bible Collage.

One thing is evident, Pastor Miles has a shepherd's heart and he loves to work with people.  Pastor Miles' motto is, "To be the best servant possible for my Master and His people."
