This is dedicated to the successful australian band 5 Seconds Of Summer. Words sometimes cannot describe my love and passion for these boys and their music.
Alright 5SOS Fans: Want to know how the band started? No, I don’t mean just the youtube cover bit. Want to know what happened BEFORE all that? Well, take a read below and you’ll learn all about it! Quite heartwarming and interesting if you ask me!
BOY band 5 Seconds of Summer have had a breathtaking ride to the top, with their single, She Looks So Perfect, topping the charts in 39 countries. But the pop sensations had to be encouraged to sing as well as play, according to their former music teacher who counts them among his most successful students. Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, Calum Hood and Ashton Irwin rose to fame as YouTube sensations.

5 Seconds of Summer gained attention when covering One Direction songs on YouTube. They gained millions of followers on social media after uploading cover versions of One Direction’s songs in 2011 and went on to became the supergroup’s backing band. Now based in the UK, three of the members— Luke, Michael and Calum — all went to Norwest Christian College, in Riverstone. Their school musical teacher Adam Day remains one of their biggest fans and advised them early on to start singing if they wanted to get far in their careers.

“I told them they must enjoy their music and I like to think I did influence and encourage them,” said Mr Day, 37, who now teaches at Taree Christian College. They are the most successful musicians I have taught as I have never had any student of mine reaching the top of the musical charts in Australia. “I told them they need to also sing instead of just playing their acoustic guitars. I remember writing in their report cards they need to seek performance opportunities to develop their confidence and they have certainly done this. The reason I told them was because I knew they had potential but were closet musicians, always practicing either in their bedrooms or during the school lunch break when they began videoing their performances. They have really turned into mature musicians.” Mr Day also taught Calum’s elder sister Mali-Koa, who took part in The Voice. “At that time Calum was in the shadow of Mali who was doing well but now Calum has turned tables on her,” Mr Day said. “I remember the last time the boys played together at our school’s soiree in 2012.”
Now entering superstardom, the 5 Seconds Of Summer, also known as 5SOS, are based in the UK.
