Cathleen and Catherine were heading down the twisted maze of hallways and going through doorways with knee knockers all the way down to the cargo hold. Cathleen stopped suddenly, she had the sensation that something was wrong, that the cargo hold was admitting coldness, and fear, as if something horrible had happened to Gil. Catherine turned around, noticing that Cathleen was no longer following her; she walked back to the little girl, seeing the fear in her eyes, something was not right.
Whats wrong Cathleen? Are we close? Catherine asked as the boat creaked as it moved with the waves of the ocean.
Yes, but its not that, the cargo hold, its admitting a vibe, a strong vibe, but not a good vibe, like something is wrong, Cathleen replied and she floating body shivered.
What do you mean? Did something happen to Gil?
I-I dont know, Im unable to tell what this vibe is admitting, I just sense its cold, we better hurry, I dont want to chance something happening to your husband,
Catherine and Cathleen picked up the pace; walking briskly through the corridor the water that was at Catherines ankles swished around her feet and lapped against the rusted steel walls. They walked through a few more openings until they were standing in front of the door to the cargo hold. Catherine shivered; she wasnt sure if it was from what Cathleen was talking about or if it was from the ocean water that was bone chilling on her skin.
The sound of the voices of the ghosts who lived in this place for the past decades echoed through the steel walls. There voices scared both of them, Cathleen had already encountered these men on one unwelcoming occasion, and Im sure she is not excited to be in their presence once again. Catherine did not know what to expect behind that door, she wanted to save her husband, from whatever was happening in their, the last thing she wanted was to loose him, Catherine did not want to think like that.
Should we go in? I mean do you think something bad is going to happen to me as well? Catherine whispers as her fingers nervously ran over the necklace Cathleen had given her.
Youll be safe, that necklace will protect if my theory is right, however; I do not know what will happen to your husband, if they had already done something horrible or not,
Catherine did not want to waste anymore time, she opened the door to the cargo hold and gingerly stepped over the knee knocker, entering the demons home. She did not have a flashlight and wished she did, because the whole cargo hold was encased in a layer of darkness. Slowly she trudged her way through the place, shuffling her feet in the ankle high water and extended her hands out in every direction hoping to run across something thats solid.
There was a dim blue light washing over the water which was the amount of light that was going to encase this room, it was from Cathleen whose small body was floating over the water behind Catherine, searching for those ghosts. She knew that they liked to play games, plays tricks on the people that Cathleen would bring to the ship to help save those souls who needed saving. They were the reincarnations of the devil himself, getting enjoyment from the act of torture and death as if life is a metaphor of a game.
Suddenly Catherine could see the cast of a flashlight over in the left hand corner. Her instincts told her that was Gil; she knew that he brought a flashlight down with him to the cargo hold. Catherine picked up her pace, striding through the water as it lapped all around her, she did not want to waste any time in finding her husband.
Gil! Gil is that you? Catherine voice reverberated off the steel walls. Cathleen was beginning to get worried, something was wrong with this, where they were heading she was not picking up the vibe of Gil.
Catherine, I dont think thats your husband, Cathleen replied but realized she was too late as Catherines screams filled the cargo hold, she had already found what Cathleen was afraid she would see.
Catherine lost her balance at the sight of one of the ghosts that revealed its hideous face to her with the use of her husbands flashlight. Catherine fell with a splash into the water as the cold touched her heated skin making her shiver. As quick as she saw the face it was gone, she looked around but all that was left was the flashlight floating in the water casting a beam of light to the far wall. The sound of their sinful voices filled the room as Catherine frantically looked in every direction to see if she could find them.
Where are you, you cowards? Catherine screamed into the cargo hold as she got back up to her feet as the water from her soaked hair tricked down her back making her skin cover in goose bumps. I know you are down here, I know that this is where you have to stay for the rest of your lives, so why dont you come out and show me who you really are! she yelled as she stumbled her way through the darkness of the cargo hold.
You sound just like your husband, boy is he ever a lucky man, one of the voice replied.
Where is my husband?
Oh you mean the man that was down here before? So youre the lucky lady, I mean I dont think I have ever seen a man who is attached to the people in his life that he loves, I mean her cried your name like a little baby wanting its mothers milk forever, I thought he would never shut up, another voice echoed in the darkness, still no floating bodies could be found.
What did you do to him? Cathleens small voice came from behind Catherine as if it was her child self speaking in fear. She emerged, hidden from behind Catherine as she could see the men that were talking even though Catherine could not.
Oh dont worry about it innocent one, we were just having a little fun with our newest guest aboard this ship from hell. I know you both want to save him, but I think it is a little too late for that, for you see, we strung him up in the corner about ten minuets ago, and Im pretty sure he has used what was left of his oxygen supply already. The first ghost replied and then cackled like a witch who has just gotten her way.
Catherine went speechless, she did not want to listen to the words that were coming from these despicable men, they were nothing to her, and all they were was the entity of limbo. She could hear Cathleen screaming at them as they laughed, they thought death was all a ruse, since their lives were destroyed everyone elses lives would have to suffer as well. Slowly their voices and Cathleens faded from Catherines ears, all that was left was silence as she slouched down beside the wooden crate, submerging her body into the deathly cold waters of the floor as tears ran down her cheeks.
Everything that has happened up to this point had flashed through her mind, it was her fault that Gil was dead, she was the one who wanted to go exploring on this stupid ship in the first place. She should have listened to him, she should have forgotten about her curiosity, forgotten about her self for once and listened. Now it was too late, Gil had paid the price, now his soul was trapped here until this ship has finally sunk for good.
How was she going to break this to her children? They will never understand how their father died while on their anniversary, knowing Lindsey she would commit her mother to the mental hospital and Caitlyn would be placed in a foster home. What about the team? How is she to tell Nick, Warrick and Sara that their boss was strangled by ghosts living on a haunted ocean liner. She would probably loose her job for sure, and if her children didnt place her in the mental hospital then Ecklie sure would.
Catherine sat in the darkness of the cargo hold, quietly whimpering to herself, ignoring the insults and comments that were coming from the ghosts as she did not even attempt to wipe the tears from her eyes. It seemed so sudden but as the salty tears touched the necklace around her neck the diamond in the middle began to produce a red glow. Catherine never noticed this before as she uncovered her eyes and looked down at the necklace Cathleen had given her.
Its working, Cathleen whispered as she smiled at Catherine, who was confused.
Whats working exactly? Catherine sniffled as the necklaces red light was slowly becoming more powerful. She stood up in the water as the whole cargo hold began to fill with the red allure of the diamond.
Cathleen unclasped the necklace from around Catherines neck as she dropped it into the water. All of a sudden a loud bang filled the room as the screams of the ghosts echoed through the walls, one by one of them being sucked down under the water and into the diamond itself. Catherine and Cathleen stood back from its power, blinded by the brightness of the light it admitted into the room as the water from the cargo hold. Then suddenly the whole room had gone dark again, as the ghosts that were once apart of this ship lay inside the necklace and could no longer be a threat to those aboard this ship.
What exactly just happened? Catherine asked as she tried to gain the courage to speak.
Those tears that you shed for your husband were filled with overwhelming amounts of love, the strongest emotion that exists to man, love can stretch from man to woman, man to animal or man to the world. Love is the only emotion that is able to beat anger and death in any game it is involved in. Cathleen explained with a smile on her face.
Im still confused, youre saying that the love I have for Gil is what was needed to defeat these ghosts for good?
Yes, you did it, your love was strong enough to break their evil spell casted on this ship, now we can all be free!
Catherine was feeling an overwhelming sense of emotions. She was glad that she was able to assist in the freeing of the souls, but at the same time she was still mourning the death of her husband. She will be a lost puppy without Gil, they spent the majority of their lives together, even before they were married, and they were best friends, co-workers, soul mates. No one would ever be able to replace the love that the two of them were able to share with one another.
Catherine picked up the necklace that was in the water, the diamond now permanently red as she handed it back to Cathleen. It was hers, she was the one who had the weapon to defeat them, but the love she had died with her and was useless, she needed someone that was living, someone with so much love to another person that it would conquer all evils.
It will have one more purpose for you Catherine, Cathleen replied as she guided Catherine over to the far side of the cargo hold. Catherine knew exactly where Cathleen was taking her.
