| KYLIE MINOGUE A BRIEF BIO: Name: Kylie Ann Minogue Place of Birth: Melbourne, Australia DOB: May 28, 1968 Height: 5'1" Weight: Next to nothing Kylie Minogue is a superstar of international proportions. She first broke the music scene back in 1987 with her cover of the Locomotion. The song was a smash and Kylie quickly became a huge star throughout the US, Europe and Australia. In the ensuing years Kylie's star faltered in the USA but continued to rise internationally. Kylie initially was signed to PWL records in 1987 and worked with the Stock/Aitken/Waterman songwriting team, which churned out hit after hit for Kylie, giving her some of her most memorable hits such as "I Should Be So Lucky" and "Better the Devil You Know". In 1992 Kylie left PWL and signs a massive deal with DeConstruction Records. She released the low-key and laid back eponymous DeCon debut in 1994.The album was well-received but a change from Kylie's normal sound and look. "Indie" was the word of the day. In 1997 Kylie released her second album for DeCon, "Impossible Princess". This was "Indie Kylie" at her peak and Kylie's fans didn't handle it well. Hastily renamed "Kylie Minogue" after the death of Princess Diana, the album, though very personal to Kylie and critically praised, flopped commerically and fell off the charts like a brick. After a depressing lull period for Kylie, in 1999 she signed a new deal with Parlophone Records and began work on what would be undoubtably her comeback album. This time around Kylie left the work to the pros and there was no trace of the infamous "Indie Kylie" when "Spinning Around", the first single off LIGHT YEARS was released in summer 2000. Upbeat and catchy it reflected her early days with PWL but made sure that though her sound was lighthearted-Kylie was very much a woman now and the sexy video for "Spinning Around" and subsequent singles off the album proved it. Kylie was back and after a world tour in 2001 she released the first single off her second album with Parlophone- FEVER- ironically titled "Can't Get You Out of My Head". The song became, overnight, THE biggest song of her career. The "la la la" chorus, the throbbing bassline and minimalist groove made the song THE song of 2001. The best was yet to come though. "Can't Get You" was so huge that it even gained airplay in the US and Kylie was back in the US after 14 years. "Can't Get You" burned up the nationwide radio playlists and danced its way into the top 10-and straight on the heels of the hit single came the US release of the FEVER album. The album debuted at #3 on the Billboard Top 200 and went platinum- a huge feat for someone basically unknown in the USA and a dance act at that. At the end of 2002, after many smash singles off FEVER and a world tour, Kylie came to the USA for a mini-roadshow tour for radio stations-testiment to Kylie's newfound success and her many new fans. In 2003, after an extended break, Kylie returned to the music scene with "Slow", a funky, electro track, the lead single from her "Body Language" album. "Slow" was Kylie's 7th #1 single and the R&B-flavored "Body Language" was released around the world November 17, 2003. |
