| Chapter 8
"Any change?" Maxie asked as her and Kyle walked into the hospital room. "Nope, everything is still the same. But Bobbie was in here earlier and she said that he was responding to light well. She even did this one thing were she would apply preasure to his hand or foot and see how his reflexes worked. He responded but nothing has happened." I said. It had been three days since he was shot and it seemed like no progress had been made. Lorenzo had stopped by quite a few times and each time I reluctantly left the room. A rush had been put on the results of the DNA test they had ran and the results came back this morning. "The results came back." I said with much lack of enthusiasm. "And....?" Kyle asked as he leaned forward resting his elbows on his knees. "Lorenzo IS Dillon's father. They said the results are 99.99% accurate. Guess how many times I have thought about having the test redone?" I asked as I looked over to where Maxie and Kyle were sitting. "Probably a thousand and one." Maxie said with a small laugh. "Not once. Can you believe it? I have not once hoped the results were different." "But I thought you didn't want Alcazar to be Dillon's father. With all the stuff he has done and everything." Maxie said concerned. "Yea, I keep telling myself that, but in all honesty, Lorenzo isn't as bad as anyone or even I have thought he is. Yesterday he came to see Dillon and I left the room but I listened at the door. I know I shouldn't have, but I just couldn't help it. He just sat in here in silence for the longest time. I was just about to leave when he started to talk." I said as tears started to rapidly fall from my eyes. "He told Dillon how sorry he was that he didn't know about him. He said that he was so angry at himself letting Dillon have any part in the mob. He talked to him about Emma and I, and how he had always watched out for us no matter what. Maxie, he did all of that for no reason. No ulterior motives or anything like that. He didn't know that he was his father then. And he still didn't know for sure, but he just sat in here and talked to him about his whole life. As if Dillon was going to respond." I said as I was now cryinig harder. "Georgie, I am so sorry." Maxie said as she eased herself up out of her chair and came over to me and pulled me up into a hug. She just held me and let me cry. "He asked Dillon questions about me and Emma, and how Emma was when she was growing up. He would sit there for a few seconds and then continue on with another question or another story. He didn't know the results, and for all he knew Dillon wasn't his son, but he didn't care. I swear, I thought he was going to break down when they told him the results. He was standing beside Dillon on the other side of the bed from me." "The results are in." Uncle Tony said as he walked into the room. I was sitting in the chair beside Dillon's bed, holding his hand and involuntarily squeezed it trying to get some kind of responce. Uncle Tony looked back and forth between Lorenzo and I before continuing when Lorenzo knodded his head. "Congratulations, you now have a much bigger family. Dillon is infact your son." "Thank you very much, but I didn't need a piece of paper to tell me that. I think I have known it all along, I just didn't stop to listen to myself." Lorenzo said as his voice cracked and he lightly touched Dillon's arm. He cleared his thought quickly. "I am afraid I need to go, but I will be back later. Will you please excuse me?" Lorenzo said as he put his suit jacket back on. He had been here for a while and had long since taken the jacket off. "Yea, sure." I said meakly, trying to register everything. "Thank you, and please call me if there are any changes what-so-ever. My cell phone number is right by the phone." "Yes I know." I said as he walked to the door and looked back at Dillon once more. Maybe it was just my imagination, but as he tuned his head back around I could have sworn I saw a tear in the corner of his eye. Maybe he wasn't that bad. "Wow, talk about intense." Kyle said. "Yea, as much as I would rather it be someone else, Dillon needs a father. He needs someone who will just sit in here like Lorenzo did, and talk about anything that came to mind. I'm just afraid of how Paul is going to take all of this." I said for the first time thinking of the man who was supposedly Dillon's father. He was completely clueless. "You don't worry about, Paul. You worry about yourself and Emma, and about what you all are going to do once Dillon is out of here." Maxie said as she absent-mindedly rubbed her hands over her swollen belly. "I'll bake a cake." I said as I laughed. "What?" Maxie and Kyle both asked at the same time. "I never told you about Dillon's fiasco that involved Emma and a cake?" I asked as they looked at me dumbfounded. "No!" They said in unison again, but this time with huge smiles on their face as the waited for me to tell them what happened. "Well, I went out for a walk one day and Dillon decided he wanted to make a cake...." I had just returned home from my daily walk and when I walked into the house to loud music. It took me a while for me to realize the song but it was "Good Vibrations" by Marky Mark and The Funky Bunch. "What...?" I said to myself as I walked through the livingroom and into the kitchen. I stopped mid step and hid behind the wall so Dillon wouldn't see me. Emma was standing in her Pak-N-Play in the middle of the kitchen while Dillon danced around her causing her to giggle uncontrolably at the site of her father. As Dillon danced around her I got a good look at what he was wearing. He had a big chefs hat on that bounced up and down as he did, and he had an apron on that said "Kiss The Cook" across the front of it. "You want to help daddy make the chocolate cake, babygirl?" Dillon asked as Emma shook her head wildly and she opened her arms so he would pick her up. Dillon lifted her up into the air and flew her around like an airplane for a few seconds before he stood her up on the counter top. He held onto her hands as she twisted from side to side dancing. "That's my girl." Dillon yelled as flour that was on the counter, under her feet flew everywhere. Dillon stirred together all of the ingredients to the cake as Emma sat on the counter top playing in the flour, which she was now practically covered in. "Daddy!" She shrieked as Dillon jerked his head to her direction. She took the opportunity and threw a handful of flour at him, giggling as it fell around him and in his hair like snow. He just laughed as she clapped her hands sending more flour flying. "You little sneak, you just wait till your mommy gets home and sees what a mess we made." The song had since ended and was replaced by 'Baby Got Back' Dillon showed Emma how to stick her finger in the cake batter and lick it off as the intro to the song came on. "Oh my God, Becky look at her butt it is soo big." Dillon said to Emma in a girly voice as started tickling her. I decided now was the best time to let my presence be known. "Is this really what you teach our daughter when I am not around?" I yelled over the music as Dillon stopped quickly and stood straight up as he looked to where I was standing. Emma was still sitting on the counter playing in the flour, and not the cake, as if I hadn't even entered the room. "Umm, I was just...ummm...I wanted to make a cake for you but....things got a little out of hand...wow, how about them Yankees." Dillon said as he crossed his arms over his chest trying to look serious and change the subject. I tried my best to look mad as I walked up to him. "You got a little flour in your hair." I said as I started laughing. I just couldn't keep a straight face. The big chef's hat that he had on covered most of his hair, but what wasn't cpvered was now white. Plus he had flour and cake mix on his cheeks. "Mommy look!" Emma shouted as we both turned our attention to her. She had stuck her whole hand in the cake mix and put hand prints all over the flour covered counter tops. As well as all over herself. I looked back to Dillon and raised my eyebrows in fake suprise. "I'll....I'll get that cleaned up." Dillon said nervously as he picked up Emma tried to dust her off. "Have fun!" I said as I walked out of the kitchen laughing. "OMG, you're joking right?" Maxie asked as she laughed hysterically. "Good Vibrations?" Kyle asked shaking his head. "Dillon, man do I have a lot to teach you." He said as we all laughed. "No lie, I swear. The kitchen, himself, and Emma were covered in flour and chocolate cake mix. It took him about three hours to clean everything up." I said as I laughed so hard I was in tears. "Oddly enough, that doesn't suprise me coming from him." Maxie said. "Yea, he has done some pretty crazy things...." |
