| Chapter 6
"What? Lorenzo Alcazar is Dillon's father? How the hell did that happen?" I asked in complete shock. "When Paul and I were still together I went to South America on business and on the way back my flight was delayed until the following morning. While I was yelling and demanding to be put on the earliest flight out, I met Lorenzo. One thing led to another and the next thing I know I was pregnant and there was no way it was Paul's child. Luckily no one questioned me and I used my being pregnant as leverage to keep Paul. He was so caught up in Jenny that he didn't really stop to do the math because if he would have, he would have figured it out. But I changed the dates around a little to cover myself. One lie turned into five and the next thing I knew I was too far into this facade that I just kept to it. I never imagined I would be forced to reveal all of this to save my sons life." Tracy said as she looked at me. I didn't know what to do or say. I was speechless and completely unable to think straight. I eased myself into the chair beside Dillon's bed when my knees felt like rubber. This was huge.....no this was monumental! Dillon grew up thinking his father didn't want anything to do with him, when infact Paul tried to get to Dillon numerous times. Now we are being told that a man who Dillon knows and has lived near for the last seven years is his father, unbeknownst to anyone. Lorenzo Alcazar, a hardened national criminal is Dillon's father, my soon-to-be father-in-law and Emma's grandfather. Then as if on-cue, Lorenzo walked into the room without, what looked to be, a care in the world. He stopped at the foot of Dillon's bed and turned to me. "Ms. Jones, I was just informed by one of my men of Mr. Quartermaine's unfortunate accident. I usually don't visit any of my men in the hospital but I feel I should give my condolences to you in person." Lorenzo said in his thick accent that only he seemed to possess. "If I didn't know what I do, and if I didn't know how much Dillon's life is depending on you right now I would ask you to leave. And for some reason I am not flattered by your presence." I said in disgust. Because of this man, Dillon is practically fighting for his life. "All the same, I will make sure that the hospital expenses and everything else is taken care of. If there is anything you and your family need don't hesitate to ask." He said with a smug smile like he had just given every last penny he had to some homeless man and now wanted a pat on the back. "Your money will not be needed but there is one thing that my family and I need that only you could give us." I said as I got up from the chair I was sitting in and crossed my arms over my chest. "And what might that be? I'd be more than happy to help." "When Dillon is released and goes home, I would really appreciate it if you never ask him to do any of your jobs ever again. For some reason Dillon really looks up to you and I know you two wouldn't be able to avoid each other in this town. All I am asking is that if the two of you ever run into each other on the streets, say your hellos and move on. Don't drag him into your world. Don't drag him down with you. I may not look very intimidating but I put up one hell of a fight for what matters to me. Dillon and my daughter's safety matter to me more than anything else in this world. If you ever put him or my daughter in danger again, I will be one hell of a force to be reckoned with. Faith aint got nothing on me." I said as I stared him straight in the eyes. "I always have admired you Ms. Jones. You have fierce determination and a strong devotion to your family. That is something I can understand for I am the same way. And don't worry, I got a new man today and won't be needing Mr. Quartermaine's asisstance anymore. I have always been very fond of the two of you. I doubt you know this, but you and your family has remained under my protection over the years. I promised Dillon I would protect you two when you were younger and I don't break my promises. I hope you can see that I am not as bad as you may think I am." Even though I didn't want to, I felt kind of bad. Lorenzo had been making sure no harm came to us for the last six years. But Dillon was still lying in this hospital bed. "As I said earlier, I am not flattered nor am I impressed." I said as he nodded and smiled as he turned to leave, noticing for the first time since he came in that Tracy and Uncle Tony were still in the room. He stopped infront of Tracy. "Do we know each other?" He asked "I'm afraid so. Nigeria National Airport, January 19, 1984." Tracy said with a wave of her hand. "Ahh yes, Ms. Hornsby. I never forget a pretty face." Lorenzo said flirtasciously. "I no longer go by that name. You may call me Mrs. Quartermaine." Tracy said. "Are you of any relation to Dillon, Mrs. Quartermaine?" He asked as he pointed to where Dillon was sleeping. "As a matter of fact, he is my son. Of which I need to talk to you. I am glad you came here, I was getting ready to call you before you walked in." She said as she sat down in one of the chairs by the little table positioned in the corner. "Well I am happy to hear that you were thinking of me." "Save it, I was going to call you on behalf of Dillon. I am afraid we need you to take some tests." I guess Tracy was going to get right to the point. She wasn't one to beat around the bush. "I am going to leave you all alone. Please have me contacted when you all are ready to be tested." Uncle Tony said as he rubbed his hand reassuringly on my back before exiting the room. I sat back down and took Dillon's hand as Lorenzo spoke. "I am afraid you have lost me." He said as he sat down in the other chair at the table and brushed off the imaginary flint on his taylored suit. "My son, Dillon, is a direct result of the night we met. I found out I was pregnant shortly after I got back. Dillon is your son and he needs your help." Tracy said sternly. "Wait, I am sorry but I believe you are mistaken....." "I know this is sudden, unexpected, and being done in bad taste but that is the least of my concerns right now. You can get a DNA test ran if you want, but I guarantee you the results will be positive. The point is, Dillon IS your son, will you help him?" She said with her fists clenched in her lap. Tracy hated relying on other people, especially over something as big as this, but she knew she had to do it. "Forgive me for not being overjoyed, I am just in shock. I will help in anyway I can reguardless of wether he is my son or not. Does he know about this?" Lorenzo asked "No, Dillon has no idea!" Tracy whispered as we all watched Dillon, relying on the constant beeping of the machines and the rythmic rise and fall of his chest under the sheets to tell us he was still ok. Lorenzo looked over at Dillon. I was wathching him and I could see a change in his eyes. He had always cared for Dillon, I can give him that. But now there was a new depth to his stare. Like he was seeing everything for the first time. All of a sudden he had a grown-up son who himself had a daughter of his own. He had an instant family and one of them was seriously hurt. I was really sad when I saw the look in his eyes. It was a look of sorrow and pain from the lack of time he had had with Dillon, but there was also joy and what looked like a new-found life. Now the question remained: Would Lorenzo or any of us be able to help Dillon in the biggest fight of his life? All of a sudden Dillon looked like a little boy lying under the sheets, hooked up to all the monitors. He looked so small and helpless. |
