| Chapter 5
"Excuse me, where is my son's room?" I could hear Tracy's destinctive voice yell across the hall. "Second door on your left, Mrs. Quartermaine." A young volunteer said uneasily. It didn't matter if it was the head of a international company or a young boy. Tracy could intimidate anyone and everyone. She walked in the room with the grace only she could possess. "My poor baby." She said as she looked at Dillon helplessly as he lay in the hospital bed unaware of what was going on around him. He had been unconscious for hours after they brought him in to the hospital. "What happened Georgianna?" She was the only one who has called me that since I was little. It was weird, but I had come accustomed to her calling me that and it always made me laugh because only she would refuse to call me Georgie because it was lazy. "We were arguing in the park about Dillon getting out of the mob business when someone shot him." I said numbly. "The mob? What?" Tracy asked confused as she walked over to the bed and stood across from me. She reached out and ran he hand lightly down the side of Dillon's face and moving a strand of hair out of his eyes before she withdrew her hand as if she was afraid someone would walk in suddenly and catch her showing any type of weakness or vulnerablility. "Yea, Dillon was doing more jobs for Lorenzo Alcazar. I thought he was through with working for him, but Alcazar came to our house and asked him to help him out and Dillon accepted his offer, even after I told him he would get hurt. God Tracy, the guy before Dillon was killed for some 'unexplainable' reason, but Dillon didn't see it that way. To him it was just a few little meaningless jobs." I said as anger raced through my body setting off all my senses. As much as I didn't want to lay blame, if Dillon would have just listened to me none of this would have happened. "Lorenzo Alcazar?" Tracy asked shocked. "Yea, he came to town like a few months before you brought Dillon here and Dillon became mixed up with Alcazar and Faith until I told him that if he didn't get out I would end things between us. He stopped working for him and had lost what seemed to be all ties with Alcazar until about a week or to ago when Alcazar showed up at the house. I know it is weird, but Dillon seemed like he just wanted to prove something to Alcazar, to live up to his expectations. I don't know why?" I said as I looked from Tracy to Dillon who actually looked peaceful on the bed. "Well when he was young I married a mob boss and Dillon always seemed fascinated with the whole thing. I should have gotten him out of that lifestyle, but you know me. Always wanting to make an extra buck here and there. So I guess I am a big reason for his fixation on the mob." Tracy said as she looked at Dillon helplessly. "It is all done now, no need to dwell on it." I agreed that she was partly to blame, but we all were partly to blame and I didn't want to upset her further. "Have they said anything about his condition?" She asked as she held her head up high. I don't care what anyone says, underneath Tracy's tough exterior she is actually very nice and she loves Dillon with such devotion. It took me a long time to see it, but it is there, she just loves him in her own way, one that no one will ever be able to fully understand. "They said that he lost a large amount of blood. I have already given blood and so has Ned, Emily, Zander, and Kyle. My sister Maxie wanted to, but she is a little over 8 months pregnant with twins and she is on a high allert pregnancy so they wouldn't let her give blood. She was going to though. I know they were saying something about bone marrow and getting all of Dillon's immediate relatives because they are the most likely to be a match. They'll tell you later but my Uncle Tony told me that you and Paul will need to be notified and tested to see if you are a match." I said repeating what I remembered Bobbie and Uncle Tony telling me "I can't believe this is happening." I said as the emotions in me seemed to boil over as tears fell down my face. "Now Georgianna you know I am not good with emotions. We must be strong and dont worry. Dillon is a strong boy. He has two very strong sets of genes running through his blood, not to mention one of them is Quartermaine genes. Us Quartermaines are fighters and don't give up. Plus I think him growing up with me has thickened his skin." She said as she laughed, trying to lighten the mood. Just then Uncle Tony came in the room. "Mrs. Quartermaine, we will need you to come down for some testing. We are also going to need to get a hold of Dillon's father. Would you like to call Paul yourself or would you like the hospital to call him?" Uncle Tony said as he looked down at the clipboard he had in his hands. "Umm that won't be necessary." Tracy said as she looked back down at Dillon. I was caught off-guard. "What? Why?" I asked as I stood up. "Dillon needs this, I know you and Paul don't get along and you kept Dillon from him, but that is over and Dillon needs this! You can't just......" I said as Tracy raised her hand to silence me. "Georgianna that isn't what I mean. I meant that we don't need to call because Dillon's father is already in town." She said for the first time in the four years that I've known her, she actually looked uneasy, even ashamed. "I didn't know Paul was back." Uncle Tony said as he flipped the papers he was looking at over and looked to Tracy. "He isn't......" "What?" I asked. "Paul isn't in town...." Tracy said as I interrupted her again. "But you just said....." I questioned. "Just let me finish. I said that Dillon's father is in town, but Paul isn't. Paul isn't Dillon's father." Tracy said sternly, putting on a fake bravado. "What?" I shouted. I couldn't help it, but Dillon and everyone else has believed that Paul was Dillon's father, no questions asked. This would be really hard for Dillon to process when he gets better and is able to comprehend this whole situation. Everything that he had believed to be true about his father was a lie "If Paul isn't, then who is?" I asked almost afraid of how much the answer could affect everyone's lives. "Lorenzo Alcazar." |
