| Chapter 3
"Hold on, I'm coming!" I yelled as I walked to the front door and adjusted the bandana I had on to keep my hair out of my face. I opened the door and my breath caught in my throat when I saw who it was. "Hello, Ms. Jones. How are you today?" Lorenzo Alcazar said as he smiled at me and looked behind me and into the house. "I'm doing fine, may I help you?" I asked uneasily. Lorenzo had never done anything to me other than being nice, but I couldn't help but to think of his brother who had kidnapped Maxie and I nine yeas ago, when ever I saw him. "Doing some cleaning I see." He said as he noticed my clothes and the broom in my hand. I looked down and suddenly wished that I had changed into something else. I was still weaing my sweat shorts but I had since taken of Dillon's sweater because it was too hot and was now wearing a white tank top. "Is Dillon home? I have a few things I need to talk to him about." He said snapping me out of my thoughts. "No, he went to the store, but he should be back soon. Would you like to wait?" I asked as I stepped aside to allow him room to come in. "That would be great." He said as he walked past me and into the livingroom. Luckily that had been the first room I cleaned. He slowly walked around the room looking at all the pictures on the shelves. "Is this your daughter?" He asked as he held up a picture of Dillon and I with Emma. It as her first birthday and we were all covered in chocolate cake and icing. Dillon had went to pick up Emma to clean her up and she had rubbed the chocolate icing all over his cheeks. When everyone started laughing she took that as a good sign and did the same to me before she started clapping. Maxie had been the one who took the picture. "Yea, that was taken three years ago." He continued to look around at the rest of the pictures before he sat down on the couch. "Can I get you anything? A drink or something." I asked hoping that Dillon would hurry up and get home. "Water would be great." He said as I went into the kitchen and got him a glass of water. "You all did a wonderful job last night at the Nurse's Ball." He said as I walked back into the livingroom. "Thank you, and thanks for donating as much money as you did. It will be put to good use I can assure you that." I said as I handed him his glass just as Dillon walked in the front door with two paper bags in his hands. When he saw Alcazar he stopped dead in his tracks. "Umm hi, what's going on?" He asked as he shut the door with his foot. "Mr. Alcazar needs to talk to you." I said with a little annoyance in my voice, that only he could pick up on, as I took the paper bags from him and headed to the kitchen. Dillon walked over and the two shook hands as Dillon sat down on the recliner facing Alcazar. "I just stopped by to see if I could enlist your services. A few of my men had some rather unfortunate accidents. I need someone who is quick on their feet, and you were the first person I thought of." Alcazar said. I was putting the groceries away but I could hear most of what was being said. "I'm flattered that you thought that I would be the best man for the job, but I am going to have to decline." Dillon said uneasily. "Are you sure? The pay would be very generous as you may or may not remember. And it is just running a few errands like before. Nothing big." Alcazar said as he took a drink of his water. Even after Dillon rejected his offer he didn't waver, as if nothing had been said. "Let's say I did take your offer. What would I be doing?" Dillon said as I became angry and slammed a cabinet door shut causing him to jump in his seat. Alcazar smiled seeing that Dillon's descision might still be changed. "Delivering packages, holding on to some things for me. Just little things." Alcazar said carelessly. "Ok, call me or contact me somehow when you need me." Dillon said as the two of them stood up and walked to the door. "I promise you, your safety and that of your family's will all be ensured." Alcazar said as they shook hands again. "Thank you." Dillon said with a hint of excitment in his voice as he shut the door. He must have known that I would be upset because he didn't come back into the kitchen for a couple minutes and when he finally did he looked like a deer cuaght in headlights. "Listen, it is only...." "Don't talk to me right now, ok. Just turn around and leave." I said with my back to him as I fixed dinner. "Geogie, it's nothing big. Don't worry." He said as he wrapped his arms around me from behind and kissed my neck. I slammed the spoon down that I was stirring the pasta with and took his arms from around me. "Don't worry! Don't worry! Dillon you are going back to work for a criminal. You are taking a job that has just been cleared because the idiots before you were killed. And you don't want me to worry?" I said as I raised my voice. "You heard what he said. It is just running a few errands for him and he said he would make sure we were all safe." Dillon said as he rubbed he temples. "Dillon, I am not living like Carly and Courtney, always looking over my shoulder waiting for someone with a gun to pop out." I said. "Georgie that is rediculous. I'm just running packages to people, that is nothing like what Sonny or Jason does. You are over-reacting." He said as he looked angry. "Listen, Jason had to start out small when he worked for Sonny and then he advanced in what 'jobs' he could do. They all start out on the bottom. I know you Dillon, and I thought you were done with this mob stuff. You won't be able to do these few things for Alcazar and then stop. You will want to move up to prove yourself to him. You are acting just like you did when we were younger. I'm not risking it." I said as I crossed my arms over my chest and stared directly into his eyes. "Things are different now..." "You're right. Things are different now. Did you forget about the little four year old girl who would die if anything happend to her daddy." I yelled as I started to cry. "Nothing is going to happen!" He yelled back at me. "Fine. You go ahead and tag along with Alcazar, be his little lap dog. I really hope it makes you feel good that what you are doing gets some respect from him, because you just lost it all from me. I hope it is worth it." I said as I walked into the livingroom and grabbed my purse. "What are you saying?" He asked following me. "Untill you can get this little obsession with the mob over with I am not putting Emma or myself through that kind of a life. You're on your own." I said as I left him standing there speechless as I slammed the front door behind me. |
