| Chapter 16
"Where is he, Mac?" I asked as I sat up on the hospital bed. Dr. Meadows had run various tests on me and was now getting the results. "Honey, calm down. You can't work yourself up like this." Mac said as he came over to me and gently pushed me back so I was laying down. "How can you say that? After all that has happened today, on MY wedding day, you expect me to be calm?" I yelled and then quickly stopped realizing that yelling was the worse thing to do. I didn't want Emma to hear me yelling, she was already upset enough. "I'm sorry, I know this isn't your fault, or anyone else's. I just don't know what else to do. I feel helpless and I hate having to just sit back and wait." I said as I laid back on the bed and cover my face with my hands. "I know that you are scared, but if you don't calm down something could happen to the baby. Dillon asked me to bring you here and make sure you are alright, and that is what I am doing. No one wants anything to happen to him and I am sure he is fine. If you promise to calm down and not work yourself up I will go make a few calls and see what is going on. But I am not leaving until you promise not to work yourself up." Mac said as he placed his hand on top of my belly and ran his thumb back and forth in a soothing motion. "Ok, I promise." I said as he kissed my forehead and then walked to the door. As he opened it, mom walked in carrying Emma who was fighting off sleep. "How is she?" I asked as she brought Emma over to me and laid her in the bed with me once I scooted over to give her plenty of room. "She keeps asking for Dillon." Mom said as I cradled Emma against my side as she quietly whimpered and within a few minutes had cried herself to sleep. "God, I would give everything for him to be here when she wakes up." I said as tears filled my eyes and threatened to fall as I kissed her temple and moved her hair out of her face. Did I ever tell you about the time when..." "We're back! And we brought some friends." I yelled as Emma ran threw the front door closely followed by her two best friends Alexis and Lily. The three had met at the park during the summer and had quickly become close. Dillon and I would bring Emma to the park so they could play or Emma would go to their house, or Emma and I would go pick them up so they could have sleep over at the house. "Not you two again." Dillon said as he came into the livingroom from the kitchen and picked up Lily and Alexis in each arm and held them as they fought to get out of his grasps, giggling the whole time. "You must really like me, if you keep coming back to play." Dillon said as they laughed even harder and he walked over to the couch, gently tossing them onto either side. "Daddy, they're not here to play with you, silly! They're here to play with me." Emma said as Dillon stood, deep in thought for a minute, and then slowly started walking towards her. When she saw him getting closer and closer she shrieked and took off running. He chased her around the livingroom, letting her stay a few steps ahead of him before he finally scooped her up and threw her over his shoulder. I stood back by the kitchen door and laughed as I watched him playing with them. Emma tried her best to break free but it was no use, and Dillon who had one hand free started tickling her causing her to giggle and kick her legs against his chest. Alexis and Lily, deciding to save Emma, ran up and latched onto his legs. Each had their arms and legs wrapped around his leg, in what looked like an attempt to squeeze him to death. He looked down at them and then over to me as he lifted each leg one at a time and walked around the livingroom with the girls still holding onto his legs and Emma trying to get down. "Daddy turned into a monster!" Emma shrieked as Dillon growled and held her upside down by her feet just barely out of Alexis and Lily's grasps. They played around for about ten more minutes before Dillon came into the kitchen, sweaty from playing so hard. "Well I don't think we'll have a problem getting them to sleep tonight." He said as he wiped the back of his hand across his forehead. I just stared at him as he tried to clean off most of the perspiration. His dress shirt from work was wrinkled and his sleeves were rolled up. I don't think I had ever seen him look as good as he did right now. "What?" He asked as he noticed me staring at him. "Nothing. I love you." I said as he smiled and walked over to me and pulled me into a hug followed by a quick kiss as Emma ran into the kitchen. "Can we watch Nemo on the big screen?" She pleaded as she stuck her lower lip out at Dillon. She knew he couldn't say no to that. "Sure thing, babygirl. I'll be out to put the movie in in a few minutes ok. Here, bring these out for you girls to snack on." He said as he handed her a box of Cheez-Its from the cupboard and she took off back into the livingroom. "You ready for a second one?" I asked as I took his hand and placed it on my stomach. It had been about a month since I had found out I was pregnant again. Dillon looked down at my stomach and slowly moved my shirt up with one hand. My belly was still relatively flat with it just beginning to swell. He pressed the palm of his hand over the swollen area and then looked back up into my eyes. "More than anything." "So we pulled out the sofa bed and the five of us sat there eating Cheez-It's watching Nemo, The Lion King and Lilo and Stitch until the girls fell asleep. I didn't want to leave them down stairs all night by themselves, incase one of them woke up and forgot where they were or couldn't find us. So Dillon pulled out the other sofa bed and we all slept in the livingroom." I said as I stared off and remembered that day like it was yesterday. "I remember that. Emma couldn't stop talking about how much fun her and the girls had. She said they camped out." Mom said as she laughed. "Yea, now whenever they come over they want to do it again. I tried to see if they wanted to camp out in Emma's room but they insisted on sleeping in the livingroom. They wanted to watch movies and we had to sleep down there too. I swear, I think it was just so they could wake us up in the morning. Although, that next morning Dillon got up early with them and they made breakfast. Granted they made a big mess but it was still good, and Dillon cleaned up. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "I know right now is a really hard time for you Georgie, but I expect you to go home and rest, I want you to come back in a week so we can check your blood pressure and make sure it is stable." Dr. Meadows said as I got down off the bed and Mac came over and picked up Emma who was just waking up. "Thank you." Mom said as we walked out of her office and around to the front desk. She patted my arm gently and smiled at me before she walked away, heading to her next appointment. As we turned the corner, I realized that the hospital was really crowded and I walked closely to my mom as people rushed past me. Mac had come back shortly after he left and said that there had been shots in the building but when they got into the room Faith and her guards were all tied up but no one else was in the building. That scared the hell out of me because that could mean that something happened, or Dillon was hurt. Then on top of everything, a really bad storm had broke out and power was out all over town, except for the hospital because it had generators. At that moment, the thought of going home and relaxing was the very thing I didn't want to do. I wanted to find Dillon. We filled out some forms and scheduled another appointment for next week as Mac went to get me some water to drink. My throat was really dry and I was having a hard time swallowing, due in part to my nerves. As we were waiting for him to get back I sat down with Emma who was still not talking when the elevator doors opened up and Dillon and Lorenzo slowly made their way off the elevator. Lorenzo was leaning against Dillon. At first I couldn't believe it and stared as Emma jumped out of the chair. "Daddy!!" She yelled as she ran across the hallway, ducking and dodging whoever got in her way. When Dillon saw her running he turned and caught her in one arm as he tried to hold onto Lorenzo and keep him balanced. As soon as he was stable, Dillon wrapped both his arms around Emma as she held onto him for dear life. Dillon's eyes scanned the room and when he finally saw me, I broke out of my daze and quickly ran, as best as I could, over to him and threw my arms around him, burying my face in his neck. Tears started pouring out of my eyes as I sobbed with relief. Holding tightly onto Emma, he wrapped his other arm around me and kissed the side of my face, feverishly kissing a trail up to my lips. "Oh God, Dillon." I sobbed again as he silenced me with his lips. "Don't...just kiss me." He said as I gratefully obliged. Soon my mom and Mac, along with Bobbie made their way over to us. "What happened? What did Faith do?" I asked as I looked down to Lorenzo who was trying to play the pain in his leg off like it was nothing. "Faith didn't do anything to us. I'll explain what happened later once everything has calmed down, but we were coming here because I knew that is where you were. Anyways, the storm got really bad and when we were walking through the parking lot, he twisted his ankle when he stepped in a pot hole that was much deeper than he anticipated." He said as Lorenzo lightly laughed. "Are you alright, is the baby fine?" Dillon asked as he suddenly remembered why we were all here. "We are both fine, but I need to rest and stop worrying. My nerves are about shot." "Daddy, I was scared." Emma said as she laid her head on his shoulder and yawned. "Aww, babygirl, I am just fine. Ok?" He asked as she shook her head. "But, can grandma take you, because I am really wet and I don't want you to catch a cold." Dillon said as he kissed her again. Relieved that he was all right, Emma willingly went to mom. "Bobbie, it is probably just a sprain, but can you get a doctor to look at his ankle?" Dillon asked. "Will do." She said as she walked away. "God, I am so glad you are ok!" I said as I wrapped my arms back around Dillon. "I'm fine, but you are going to catch a cold too. Let me make sure a doctor checks da...Lorenzo over and then we can go home. Believe me, I want nothing more than to just go home, take a shower and go to sleep with you in my arms." He said as he rested his forehead against mine. "That is completely out of the question." Lorenzo said as he stood back up and winced as he accidentally put too much pressure on his right foot. Dillon jumped to steady him. Lorenzo leaned against Dillon as an orderly brought a wheel chair over and he eased himself into it. "I'm fine, you all go home and be with each other. This was supposed to be one of the happiest days of your lives and it was ruined. At least go home and relax." Lorenzo said softly as he looked at me and then to my stomach. "Go take care of yourself." "Are you sure?" Dillon asked as he looked torn. "Yes, if you don't I will get up out of here and kick you in the ass with my good foot. Go!" Lorenzo said as he started to push himself up out of the chair. "Ok, ok, Emma is tired and we all need to just go to bed and rest." Dillon said as he jumped back, out of Lorenzo's reach and smiled when he sat back down. "Mac and I can still take Emma." Mom said looking back and forth between Emma and I. "No that's ok, I think after everything that has happened today, she'll want to be home." Dillon said as he walked over to the elevator and pushed the button to go down. "Ok, I'll follow you and put her in the car. You're too wet and she is too heavy for Georgie to be carrying right now." Mom said as she walked up to Dillon and wrapped her free arm around his neck. "You have no idea how grateful I am that you weren't hurt. I don't know what we would have done." "Thanks, and thanks so much for making sure Georgie came here, I know if it was up to her she would have stayed out there and not gotten checked out until after the fact." Dillon said as he shook Mac's hand. "It was my pleasure, it gave me a chance to actually see Georgie. Everything has been so hectic lately." Mac said as he looked over to me and smiled. I hugged him as the elevator doors opened and we walked on. I leaned against Dillon as he wrapped his arm around my waist. "You ready to go home, Mrs Quartermaine?" Dillon said with a laugh. "More than anything, Mr. Quartermaine." I whispered as the doors slowly closed. |
