Chapter 8

"Table 17 needs cleared and set. You'll probably have to make a few trips because it was a party of twelve. Hurry up, though, things are picking up out there." The night manager, Jim McClosky, said as he rushed past me.

As I caught up on my school work and steadily worked on raising my grades, I worked at the theater 3 nights a week and one night on the weekend. Once I was caught up and I could handle having two jobs, I started working at The Grove, a nice restaurant about ten miles outside of Port Charles. With school almost over, and my bringing in two paychecks, things were definatly looking up. I walked through the swinging door, and started clearing off the table when I heard a familiar voice.

"Wow, Guy are you sure you can afford this?" Georgie said as she stood next to him, gaping at the simple elegance of the restaurant. I reached for a glass by my hand and knocked it over from lack of attention, causing everyone to stop and stare at me, including Georgie.

Georgie's POV

There was a crash, and everyone became quiet as my eyes travelled in the direction of the noise. My breath caught in my throat and I stumbled back a step when I saw Dillon standing there looking around appologetically at everyone. His eyes landed on me and he smiled slightly before he turned around to clean up what spilled from the glass. I noticed the white apron around his waist that seemed to clash with the black slacks that was topped with a white shirt and realized that he worked here, as a bussboy.

"I've got to get out of here." I whispered as Guy protectively wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me close to him.

"What? Why?" He asked as his eyes searched my face.

"Umm, maybe because Dillon is right over there and you are here on a date and it isn't with me." I said as I motioned towards Justin Reed, an incredibly gorgeous junior with sandy blond hair, piercing green eyes and a deep voice that could make anyone's knees go weak. Maxie had introduced them to each other after she met Justin in one of her yoga classes, and they had been seeing each other ever since. After introducing him to Guy, we had all become friends and often hung out together. Justin knew all about what was going on, which is why we decided to come here and eat. We thought that since it was out of town, we wouldn't have to worry about anyone we knew, seeing us and figuring out that Guy and I weren't really dating. Yea, we were wrong.

"Don't worry about that, besides it was more of a group date anyways! Hold on." He said as he leaned over and whispered something into Justin's ear and he nodded. "We're all set." He said as he smiled down at me and kissed the side of my head..

"What do you mean?" I asked confused.

"Maxie just got herself a date." He said as we looked over to Maxie who linked her arm with Justin's in an exaggerated tone as they both started laughing. "You'll be fine."

"OK." I said as I breathed in deeply and the hostess lead us to our table. We each sat next to our 'date' and quietly talked, the whole time, though, I kept waiting for Dillon to come back out. We ordered our food and it came about 30 minutes later, yet, while everyone else willingly ate, all I could do was slide my shrimp pasta around on my plate.

"Georgie you didn't even touch your food, strike that, you didn't even eat your food." Maxie said as she looked over at me with a worried smile. All I could do was shrug my shoulders in defeat. Just then, Dillon came back out and started clearing off the table behind us. My senses seemed to be heightened because I could hear every breath he took in, I could feel every time he walked behind me causing me to get goose bumps. My nerves shook as my breath quickened.

"I need to leave, I'm sorry." I said as I stood up and almost ran into Dillon as I hurried out the door trying to draw the least amount of attention to myself as possible. I ran out the front door and sighed with relief as I leaned back against the wall.

Dillon's POV

Stunned wasn't about to describe what I felt after seeing Georgie run out of the restaurant in such a hurry with a look of horror on her face. I looked over to Guy and Maxie who both looked shocked as well, and I was about to go after her when Maxie caught my eyes and shook her head as her, Guy and her date all stood up and left after throwing some money down on the table. I felt miserable as I went through the motions of cleaning off the remaining tables as the once crowded room, slowly winded down until there was no one else in the building. Part of my job was to lock up and I usually had the place ready for the next day within an hour after the last customer, but today I wasn't even half-way finished and two hours had already passed. I sighed as I settled the last chair up onto the table and made sure the floor was clean. I walked back into the kitchen and shut all the lights off and walked to the front, grabbing my coat. As I reached up to set the alarm, a movement outside caught my attention. I slowly walked to the door, noticing for the first time that it had started raining, when I saw someone sitting on the ground with thier back up against the door, and their head resting on their knees that were pulled up to their chest. I quickly unlocked the other door and stepped outside.

"Georgie what are you doing here? Why are you sitting out here in the rain, you're going to get sick." I said as she jumped at my voice but didn't move her head to look up at me. I went to pick her up but she stiffened in my arms and I stepped back. "You need to come in here and dry off, it is freezing out here." I said as I offered her my hand. She finally looked up at me and my heart broke when I saw the dark lines caused from her crying and her mascara running, which contrasted against the redness under her eyes and on her cheeks, hideously mixing with the blue tint to her lips from the cold. She looked at my hand and then pulled herself up off the ground. I held the door open for her as she walked in, and I cringed as she made a point not to come anywhere near me. There weren't any blankets that I could find so I pulled a table cloth off one of the tables, sending everything on top, crashing to the ground. She didn't even flinch. I wrapped the blanket around her and draped my coat on top to hold in the heat.

"Where is Maxie, or Guy?" I asked as her teeth chattered and her lips still held that blue color. I wrapped my arms around her and hugged her to me as she fought for a minute and then relaxed, realizing that I wasn't going to let go. "Why were you by yourself out there?"

She mumbled something but I couldn't understand what she said. I leaned my head back, urging her to repeat her last comment. She rolled her eyes before continuing. "We need to talk."

"Yea I know, there is so much that I..." I started but she inhaled sharply. I stopped mid-sentence letting her continue.

"No, there are some things I need to get out, and there is something that I need to tell you. You're going to hate me, but I have to get this out."

"Georgie, I could never hate you." I said with a slight laugh as I rubbed her back, but she pulled away.

"Don't be too sure about that." She said as she looked up at me with sad eyes.
