| Chapter 5
"We need to talk." "About...?" Lorenzo asked as he casually walked over to me and gestured for me to sit down on one of the couches. "I thought you wanted the day off?" He asked as I sat down. "Yea, yea I did. Actually where is Sage? She isn't here is she?" I asked nervously. "No, I had another guard take her shopping. She hates being holed up in here all day." He said with a careless laugh. "Did you need to talk to her, I can call my guard and have him bring her back if it is important." "No, no it is probably better if she isn't here that way I can talk to you without her jumping in." I said as I tried to stop my hands from shaking sp bad. "Ok, what is it you want to talk to me about?" Lorenzo asked as he sat down on the couch opposite me, his elbows resting on his knees as he gave me his full attention. "Umm, I just wanted to come by and tell you personally that I won't be able to work for you anymore." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Georgie's POV "Hello?" I asked as I grabbed the phone off the side table. "Hey it's Maxie. What are you doing right now?" She asked in a rushed tone. "Not much, me and Guy are watching 'The Goonies'!" I said as Guy threw a handful of popcorn at me. "Jerk!" I whispered as I covered the mouthpiece of the phone. "What were you saying?" "I was saying that I just over heard Emily telling Nikolas about the engagement party that Edward is throwing for them." Maxie said quietly into the phone. "What does that have to do with me? And I thought Edward didn't approve of them getting married." I asked. "I guess Lila made him get over it quickly, anyways it has everything to do with you. Dillon is going to be there. Emily said that he didn't want to go, but when she said it would mean a lot to her if he was there and that Tracey wasn't invited, he agrees to go. It's going to be at The Grille, tomorrow night." She said excitedly. "And..." "And you need to be there." She practically yelled into the phone. "Why? How can I just show up there without looking obvious?" I asked not really paying much attention to what she was saying. Guy kept throwing popcorn at me and then pretend to be absorbed in the movie. "Do I need to spell everything out for you? You show up, on Guy's arm looking fabulous and happy, and make him see what he is missing." "Maxie, I don't know!" I loved the idea, but at the same time I was terrified. "Just do it. Bye." She said as she hung up the phone before I could protest anymore. "What was that about. You look like you have to go sit in on five hours of Mr. Thompson's lectures." Guy said with a laugh as he took his attention from the movie for a few seconds to look over at me. "Right now I think that would be better." "Better then what?" He asked. "Maxie just called and said that I have to show up at The Grille tomorrow looking 'fabulous' because Dillon is going to be there with his family and he needs to suffer." I said with a slight laugh. "Where's the downside to all of this?" He asked as he looked around the room as if searching for an answer. "Well for one, I really don't want to do it, and two I don't have anything that would make him even look in my direction." I said dejectedly. "Ok one, you could show up in a poncho and he would notice you, and two there is a mall 15 minutes from here. We can fix your problem and be back before dinner is done. Just follow me." He said as he stood up and pulled me off the couch. I went upstairs to get my coat and when I came back down everything was turned off and he was waiting by the door. "Come on, it won't be nearly as bad as you think." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Do you mind if I ask why? I thought you needed the money." He asked as he sat back in the over stuffed leather couch that probably cost more than most people's houses. "Yea I do, but this job is costing me to much, personally. Way more than it is worth financially." "Georgie?" He asked. "Yea, I have really screwed things up with her and things just seem to be getting worse ever since I started working for you and watching Sage. No offense but she is..." I stopped, trying to think of a polite way to describe her. "Determined, hard-headed, ruthless, conniving, down right mean to name a few?" He said with a laugh. "Umm, yea how did you know what I was getting at?" I asked, my nervousness easing. "Listen, I love my niece more than anything in this world and I would do anything for her, but she doesn't fool me. I know how she is because she is just like her father and myself. When she wants something," He said nodding at me. "she will stop at nothing to get it." "Ok, this is going easier than I thought." I said under my breath, but he still caught it. "What did you think was going to happen?" He asked with a laugh. "I don't know, I thought you would threaten to kill me or something. You know the whole 'once you are associated with the mob there is no turning back.' thing. I was thinking I would have to sign my life away if I say anything." I said as I started to laugh, realizing that my fears were way out of proportion. "Luckily for you, you didn't really get into it, but I trust you won't go running your mouth." Lorenzo said as he narrowed his eyes on me. A lump caught in my throat and I tried to push it down. "No, I won't say anything. I swear." I said as I stood up quickly. He too, stood up and we both walked to the door. "Ok, and don't worry about Sage. I'll make it perfectly clear that she better leave you and Georgie alone or she'll be back in boarding school before she knows it." He said as he opened the door. "Something tells me it won't be that easy." I said as I walked out into the hallway but turned back to face him. "Yea, well she'll get the hint eventually. Just go make things right with Georgie. I always have liked her, good luck." He said with a smile as he nodded and then shut the door. The first step to getting her back went smoother than I thought. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Georgie's POV "Ok, so where do we go first?" I asked as we walked through the open court of the mall looking around at all the people walking by quickly. "How about here?" Guy said as he pointed to a shop that was small but had two beautiful window displays of dresses for all occasions. "Looks as good as any." I said with a sigh as he pulled on my arm, bringing me into the small shop that smelled like roasted vanilla. "Ok look, right over there are dresses that you would wear out to a dance, and here are ones for maybe like a special event. So dresses we are looking for should be somewhere close." He said as he wove us through racks of dresses looking up frequently to read the signs hanging from the ceiling. "Ah ha, and we're here!" He announced as he stepped aside and pushed me in front of him. Before I knew it, he was leading me around the racks of dresses holding one out every few seconds. "Ok. um no. This reminds me of my grandmother!" He said as he shoved the dress back on the rack and I laughed at the look of disgust on his face. "And this looks like something you would wear to church when you are five years old. We need something classy yet seductive!" He said to himself as he threw a few more dresses at me. "Wow, you have such a good range of color!" I said as I looked down at the numerous black dresses in my arms. "Be quiet, every woman has to have a simple black dress that drives the guys wild! Besides black is both seductive and classy. So go try those on and I am going to see if they have earing and shoes. You pick out the shoes though because after this I need to go get me something to wear too. But I want to see what these look like on you, this is the fun part!" He said as his eyes danced. He pointed to the dressing room before he turned towards the front register. I grabbed a few more dresses on my way there while he wasn't looking and slipped into one of the vacant rooms. "Ok, you can get shoes and all that good stuff here too, so what's taking you so long? Come on." Guy said as he knocked on the door five minutes later. "No, I don't wanna." I said as I looked at my reflection in the mirror. "Why not?" He asked. "I look like I am wearing a trash bag." I pouted as I turned around seeing if their was anything good about this dress. "Oh come on, it can't be that...bad" He said as I opened the door and he looked me up and down. "Ok, your right! Next dress." He said as he grabbed the door knob and quickly shut the door. "Too frumpy." "Too Jane Fonda meets Anna Nicole Smith." "Too country." He said as he flipped the fringes on the sleeves. "You picked these out, remember?" I said as I went back into the small room. "Yes, but they looked completely different on the hangers." He laughed as I reached for one of the dresses I grabbed when he wasn't looking. I couldn't stop laughing as I zipped the back up, satisfied with the reaction I was sure to get I opened the door and leaned against the frame seductively. Guy about fell out of his chair when he saw the bright pink dress I had on. It looked like it was made of satin and spandex with layers of horribly old lace and fishnet. "What on earth is that, take it off!" He said horrified as I walked over to him and spun around in front of him. "You don't like?" I pouted as I stuck out my bottom lip. "I hate!" He said as he looked around to see if someone we knew or anyone for that matter was looking. He gently pushed me back in the dressing room as I busted up laughing. Next I grabbed the other dress that he didn't see me take and I smiled to myself as I smoothed the material out. I actually really liked this dress. It was a pale peach, strapless gown, with a few thin layers of chiffon material that draped down to the floor with a small flower ornament at the waist. It was beautiful and fit in all the right places. "Are you ready?" I yelled over the door. "Yep, anything is better than that last one." Guy said as I opened the door. I giggled as his jaw about hit the floor. "All I can say is..WOW!!" "I know it isn't one of the ones you picked but I saw it and grabbed it before I went in here. I love it. So do you think this is it?" I asked as I stood in front of the full length mirror by the dressing rooms and spun around again. "That dress is killer and I would definitely get it if I were you, but I think it might be a little too much to wear to a date at a restaurant. But if you have the money to get it, I say do it!! You never know when you might need the perfect dress. And that, my dear, gorgeous friend is the perfect dress." He said as he stood up and took my hand spinning me around. "So I should still try on the other dresses? And get this one too?" I asked looking one last time in the mirror before I turned to face him. "Yea, trust me, when we go tomorrow you will be glad that you stuck with a black dress. That way it won't draw everyone's attention to you, but it will get Dillon's and that is all that matters, right?" He asked. "Right!" I stated as I went back into the dressing room, hopefully for the last time. "I'm not coming back out until I have the dress I want." "Whatever you say, Georgie." For the next fifteen minutes I tried on countless dresses, but none seemed right. Guy kept throwing more and more dresses over the door, when I finally reached the last dress and tried it on, everything came together. "I found it!!" I squealed as I quickly opened the door. It was a black dress that lay smoothly along my curves, flowing down to a floating hem just below my knees. The right side had a slit midway up my thigh, not indecent, just so that it would drape when I crossed my legs, showing just a hint of my upper leg. Enough to stimulate the imagination. The bodice of the dress lay smoothly over my torso. The spaghetti straps meeting the top of the dress which fell into a low cowl neckline. The material draping along my bust. Guy let out a low whistle. "Very sexy! That's it, he won't know what hit him!" |
