Chapter 10

"Georgie!" Dillon yelled as I closed my eyes willing that whatever was about to happen would be quick and painless. All of a sudden I could see Dillon's face from the day that he told me he loved me in the barn. The image lasted not even a second as I felt something knock me to the ground. I opened my eyes, expecting to see clouds and everything white, big pearly gates and people with wings, but instead I saw Dillon over top of me yelling something as the rain splashed down onto my face. The ringing in my ears slowly subsided. "Georgie...Georgie can you hear me?" Dillon yelled as he held my head in his hands.

"Stop yelling, my head is killing me." I whispered as he sighed in relief.

"Oh my god, I though..." He said as he dropped his head to my shoulder and breathed heavily. "Are you alright?" He asked as he looked me over.

"My hand hurts." I said as I sat up with his help and looked down at my right hand that had a huge gash on it's palm. I was shaking from the adrenaline and sheer terror of what had just happened.

"Ok, we need to clean that out. I'm going to carry you, ok? You're too shaken up to walk." He asked as he looked down at me. I nodded as he lifted my left arm around his neck and picked me up, carrying me back across the street and into the restaurant. He sat me down in the booth I had just been sitting in not 30 minutes before and put the table-cloth and his jacket back around my shoulders before he went to get a first-aid kit. I sat there and stared at my hand as flashes of the headlights and Dillon's face kept flooding my mind. Five minutes later he came back out with the kit and kneeled down in front of me, opening the box and carefully taking my hand in his. He poured some rubbing alcohol over my hand and cleaned the blood off as best he could with a wet rag. I inhaled sharply when the alcohol hit the wound. "Sorry!" He said as he blew on my hand trying to stop the stinging.

He managed to get the few pieces of loose gravel out and cleaned it out again. "Why did you push me out of the way, you could have been hit too." I whispered, not trusting my voice very much at the moment.

"Do you really have to ask me that question?" He asked not breaking his concentration.

"I would think after what just happened, the last thing you would do was jump in front of a car to push me out of the way." I said with a slight laugh.

"I would never let anything happen to you. No matter how much we fight or argue." He said as his brows furrowed together in concentration as he put ointment on and around the cut.

"You know how they say that in near-death experiences your whole life flashes before your eyes?" I asked.

He simply nodded his head as he put a patch over the cut and reached down into the kit to get the gauze wrap. "What did you see?" He asked still not looking up at me.

"You." I whispered so softly that I was afraid he didn't hear me, but I knew he had when his head snapped up and his eyes locked with mine.

"Me? What else?" He asked after a moment of agonizing silence.

"Nothing else, just you."

"Probably because at that moment, you hated me so much." He said with a nervous laugh as he looked back down to my hand and started wrapping the gauze around it.

"I'm sorry...for everything! For lying, for wasting all this time. I was just so confused and scared I didn't know how to handle it." I said as his hands stopped for a second before they continued, but I noticed that they were shaking more than mine were. Within a few seconds he secured the wrap and held onto my hand in both of his.

"I'm sorry for everything too. For not listening to you in the beginning, for working for alcazar and for sleeping with..." He said as I held up my hand.

"Please, let's just agree to never talk about that ever again." I said as he smiled and brought my hand up to his mouth and kissed each finger tip.

"Agreed."

My fingers tips were still pressed against his lips and I gently ran my index finger over his bottom lip. Slowly, Dillon leaned forward and our lips, for a couple of wonderful seconds, lightly touched before he pulled away. He looked at me, waiting for my response. I slowly slid off the booth until we were both kneeling on the floor facing each other. A sense of relief and renewed trust flooded over me and my sight became blurry from the tears welling up in my eyes as I ran my thumbs over his cheeks and lips and any other part of his face that I could touch. That fight was just what we needed to get everything out in the open and the rain seemed to wash every bad thing away. Dillon reached up and caught the tears with his fingers as they spilled down my cheeks. My hands made their way behind his head and I gently brought his lips up to mine.

"I love you too." I whispered against his mouth before our lips finally consumed each other as I wrapped my arms around his neck, pressing my body into his, trying to find some way to mold into him. At first our kisses were feverish and hungry, trying to make up for the months we had been apart but after a while, the kisses became slower, more loving and passionate. Dillon pulled me onto his lap as he finally broke the kiss and hugged me to him, burying he head in the curve of my neck. He pulled back and looked at me as our eyes were both red and puffy from crying. I leaned forward and kissed each of his eyes before resting my forehead against his.

"Do you think we can get back to where we were before all of this started?" He asked, his voice raw from a mixture of yelling, crying and lack of oxygen.

"No." I said simply "But I think we can start at a whole new level, one that we wouldn't have been able to get to without going through what we did."

"Can I ask you a question?" He asked as he pulled back and moved my damp hair behind my shoulders.

"Yes."

"What was up with you and Guy? You two really had everyone fooled and I have never known anyone to pretend to be someone's boyfriend and not expect anything in return." He asked as I laughed. "What?"

"You did, when we first met, you acted like my boyfriend." I said as he nodded his head in remembrance. "Plus, as Guy once told Maxie, I am not his type."

"You're not? Is Maxie his type?"

"Actually no, but you are. He's gay! But don't worry, he knows you're off limits" I said as I hugged him closer to me and tried to hold back from laughing.

"Oh, well I guess that would explain why you both did that with no pretense." He said as his cheeks flushed. "Wow, literally everything was let out today!"
"But it feels good to not have anything to hide anymore." I said as I curled up against his chest, playing with the hair on the back of his neck.

"Yes it does! Now what? What's Next?" He asked as he pulled his jacket tighter around me, slipping his arms inside and around my waist.

"Let's go for a drive." I said not moving.

"Where to?" He asked

"Anywhere. Some place new."
