| Chapter 1
"Did you love him?" Guy asked with true sincerity. For a second I didn't answer him. I had just met him not a couple hours earlier and he was already asking me questions that I was afraid to ask myself. But there was something to him; something that made me want to tell him how I felt about Dillon. "Yea...I really did. Dillon was the only guy I had a real conversation with. He was sweet and smart and made me laugh a lot." For some reason I felt completely safe telling him these things that I had yet to truely tell myself since this all started. "You know, you remind me of him." "Sorry G, but I'm not turnin'! Well, maybe for Lucy Lui!" He said with the infectious smile that I had quickly realized I was powerless to. "Why do all the good ones have to be gay?" I said in a moment of self pity and sheer delight that he had managed to take my mind off of Dillon, a feat I hadn't been able to accomplish since I saw him in bed with Sage days earlier. "Trust me, they're not. Dillon's still in love with you." He said once again bringing my mind back to the only subject that had filled my thoughts for what seemed like forever. For some reason though, hearing him say that made me feel better in a way. "You had to notice how he didn't want the two of us to be alone. If you really love Dillon back don't give up on him." "I have to, he's already given up on me." As much as I tried, I couldn't help it. My mind kept drifting back to the day in the park after I had met Guy. After only knowing him for a few hours, it felt like I had known him my whole life. I had a sense of comfort everytime I was around him, something that I hadn't felt in a long time. Today was our first day back to school after Christmas break and I wasn't ready to face anybody. Since we met, Guy and I had hung out every chance we got and I had found myself not thinking of Dillon more so than not. I was glad that he would be attending PC High after the break but soon felt lost again when his father was transfered again to a town about 30 miles away and would be moving and attending a whole other school. As I thought more about everything that happened and how everytime things are looking up, my feet get knocked out from under me, I threw my books into my locker and slammed the door shut. "Poor baby, what's wrong? Feeling lonely?" Sage asked as I turned around to see her standing right behind me. "If you're wondering where Dillon is, he is parking his new car." Sage said putting emphasis on on 'new'. "Uncle Lorenzo gave him a rather large, Christmas bonus in the form of a car. So now we can go anywhere and do anything we want." "Are you really so desperate that your uncle has to pay someone to give you attention because he is too busy to give it to you himself?" I asked not really interested in talking to her or anyone at the moment. "Believe me, you don't need to worry about that. What guy wouldn't want the benefits of hanging around me all day and getting paid for it." She said with a sly smile as Dillon came around the corner. The color drained from his face when he saw the two of us talking. Over the break we had all but managed to avoid each other, and were all hoping it would stay that way. But the high school is only so big and it was bound to happen. "Sage what are you doing?" He asked in a low growl as he walked up to us, avoiding eye contact with me. "Actually I think you just saved me from hearing all the repulsive details of what benefits you recieve while working for Alcazar. I have been feeling better lately so I would really like to be able to keep my breakfast down this morning." I said as I smiled coldly at Sage than at Dillon. "Have you been sick?" Dillon asked with what sounded like concern, but I could have been wrong. "The flu's going around and I was lucky enought to spend the whole break fighting it." I said half-heartedly. "Dillon let's go, we're..." Sage went to say but Dillon held up his hand in an attempt to silence her. "But you're ok now, right?" He asked as he stepped a foot closer to me, but stopped when I stepped equally as far back. "Of course she is. A little of my mom's famous soup and a stack of Jim Carey movies seemed to do the trick." A heard a familiar voice say. I turned around to see Guy walking up beside me as he casually slipped his arm around my waist, gently pulling me towards him. I couldn't believe he was here but when I looked up to say something he just winked at me, and I turned my attention back to Dillon. "Yea, I am much better, home-cooked soup and some intense laughing always does the trick." I said as I looked at Sage who was clearly checking Guy out. It was insane how good-looking he was. He was wearing tan cargo pants that were baggy but not to baggy and a really nice long-sleeved blue dress shirt that fit him perfectly. And boy did he smell good: Addidas cologne was my favorite. Sage was blatantly staring at him and it really made me mad so I slipped my arm around his waist and reveled in the look of contempt on Sage's face. Dillon's face almost matched hers, but he also looked hurt. I almost felt bad for him until I realized how much he had hurt me. This was nothing compared to what I had gone through. "Well leave you two alone to do whatever it is your kind does. Come on Dillon." Sage said as she looked Guy over once more and then pulled Dillon away by his arm. He didn't say anything, but just kept looking at us shocked. As soon as they were further down the hallway I turned around and through my arms around his neck hugging him tightly, in which he returned the hug greatfully. "Don't say anything yet, he is still looking." He said as he hugged me closer to him. After a few seconds he losened his grip but still had his arms wrapped around me as I pulled away from him. "Where is he?" I whispered as he casually looked over my shoulder. "Down the hall. Sage is talking to him about something but he keeps looking over here. He is totally ignoring her, it's great!" He said as he smiled back down at me. "Why are you here? I thought your dad got tranfered?" I said as I turned around to get something I had forgotten out of my locker. The bell for first period would be ringing in about five minutes. "He did, but he got his bonus and bought me a car for Christmas. I've had my lisence for about 2 years now, but never got a car because we were always moving." He said as he casually leaned up against the locker beside mine. "But what made you want to come here. You said it yourself, PC is boring." I said as I looked at the inside of my locker door. The places that once held the various pictures of Dillon and me, now seemed to haunt me. Teasing me of something that I once had and now lost. "Not everything is boring. Even though I only know you and Maxie, and somewhat know Dillon and Sage, that is 4 more than I would know at the other school. Besides, I couldn't leave you to let Sage be all up in your face." He said trying to lighten the mood. "Hush, I had it all under control." I said as I looked up at him and laughed. "Please, you were ready to deck her. You wouldn't have been able to hold back five more seconds if I hadn't showed up." "Really, what was all that about anyways?" I asked as my eyes danced with curiosity. "You want Dillon to think you've moved on, as he wants you to think about him, and I saw the chance and took it. Plus, Dillon getting jealous is just an added perk." He said as he glanced back down the hallway. "He can't stop looking." He said as he leaned down and whispered into my ear, "What do you have first period?" I knew what he was up to. Dillon was watching and he was probably furious. "Study Hall with Britney and Justin over there." I said as I nodded down the hall. "Ouch, breaking out the pop couple of the millenium. You must really be mad! Besides don't worry, that's where I'm at too. If Sage wants to put on a show, we'll put on a better one!" He said as he laced his fingers with mine and pulled me towards the classroom. Maybe things wont be that bad after all. |
