It was rare for the three of them to be in the same room together without fighting, but as they looked through files the next day, there was no animosity. Jade was being more supportive than Emily�s family, most of whom were sitting in the waiting room, looking peeved that Jade refused to let them in. Emily had decided to tell Lila about their plans to adopt and Edward overheard, swearing that Jade would try and give them a baby hooked on drugs, or worse, one of her Cassadine relatives spawn. Alan and Monica had followed him to the office, concerned for Emily, but also promising to make sure Edward didn�t interrupt the meeting.
�You think the girl from Brooklyn sounds alright?� Zander asked Emily. Jade had called a friend from New York City, hoping to find a perfect match.
�I don�t know. I�m not thrilled that she drank until she was five months pregnant.� Emily looked over the file again. Jade had warned them that some of the biological mothers had had less than desirable activities before and even during their pregnancies. �Honestly, none of these girls��
Jade nodded, �I know. I thought that we�d come across something.� She still had her Port Charles files, but because she wanted no complications for Zander and Emily, she was saving those for last. �I have another friend in California faxing some things to the office��
�What about this one?� Emily asked, handing Jade the file she thought she�d hidden. �Lucy and Connor..�
Jade�s heart sank. Of course Emily would be interested in that file. It was the one she shouldn�t have seen. �I already have a woman lined up for them to meet.�
�Too bad. Sounds like they aren�t too bad. No drugs, no alcohol. Decent grades�� Emily closed the file and set it aside. �I�m sure there�s a baby in one of these stacks..�
Zander grabbed the file Emily had set aside. �It says here �Not yet placed.� � he challenged Jade.
Jade looked and knew she was caught. �Hmm, I thought I had��
�Maybe we could meet with them.� Emily said, hoping it was possible.
�I�ll talk to them,� Jade promised. �But let�s take a look at the California possibilities too.�
Zander dropped Emily off and went back to Jade�s office. She was taking the afternoon off to spend time with Alyssa, and was about to leave when he stormed in.
�What the hell are you doing?� He asked, angry.
�What are you talking about?�
�You don�t want us to meet this Lucy and Connor. Why not?� Zander looked at her. �Are you going to help us or not?�
�Yes! That couple�Zander, its just not possible.� She said, hoping he would drop it. Emily had sounded interested in two girls and she was going to set up meetings for the next week. �I�m not sure that Connor really wants Lucy to give the baby up. I don�t want to get anyone�s hopes up.�
Zander calmed down and sat in the chair he�d occupied for almost three hours earlier. �Is this hopeless?�
�No, it�s not. You just can�t rush it. I warned you, as I�m sure Alexis did, that it could take time.� Jade sat back down. �Plus, I don�t want you two to narrow your choices down. Some of the girls I�m representing are drug addicts. The babies are going to have serious problems. I�ve had to tell many couples that the baby they were waiting six months for died. I don�t want to have to do that to you or Emily.�
�If this couple, Lucy and Connor, if they decide that they do want to give their baby up��
�I�ll be honest with you. I think that it�d be best to place their baby with a family outside of Port Charles.� Jade said. �They know too many people and there�s too huge a chance that they�d have to see the baby��
Zander nodded and then asked a question that she didn�t want to answer. �Are their names really Lucy and Connor?�
�Zander, I can�t talk about that��
�You were never a good liar.� Zander smiled.
Jade felt herself blushing and then smiled at him. They were slowly becoming best friends again. �No, but I can�t tell you their real names. Just trust me on this, please.�
�Of course I trust you.� He said. �It�s not really a question of that. I just don�t want Emily to get hurt.�
�I don�t either. I�m going to find the perfect biological mother for you and a few months after that, you�ll have a perfect baby.�
Zander nodded, watching her. Jade had never let him down, as a friend, lover, or attorney. He trusted her, but there was more to her secret clients than she was telling him, which was exactly why he�d memorized the address of the young couple and planned on finding out who she was protecting.
