| Chapter 9 "So what of all of this stuff is yours? Do you have a suitecase? This all won't fit in your backpack." Maxie said as we went through all of Dillon's things in his room trying to figure out what he was taking. "Yea, I have a suitecase under the bed." Dillon said as he grabbed clothes out of the closet and threw them onto the bed. We had been lucky enough not to run into anyone on the way in and didn't have to start explaining anything just yet. My mind was going crazy with different scenarios of how they would take it. It was frightening to say the least, almost as bad as telling my own parents. Ned had picked us up at Kelly's about an hour after Dillon had met us there. He offered to take Maxie home but also told her that she could come with us and she decided to come along to help. Ned assured us that he had talked to my mom and Mac and offered to help in anyway and tried to assure them that Dillon wasn't nesessarily who they thought he was. Well who Mac thought he was. "You sure don't have very much stuff." Maxie said as she looked at the suitecase that wasn't nearly full and the backpack sitting beside it. "Well what can I say, I pack light." Dillon said taking a final look around the room making sure we got everything. Then he turned and looked at me. "You ready?" He asked with a look in his eyes like he didn't know what was going to happen next. "Umm not really, but I guess that isn't an option is it?" I asked as I put my hands in the back pockets of my jeans, a failing attempt at stopping my hands from shaking so much. "Well we don't have to tell them, but they will find out and I would really like to tell them now and get it over with." He said sympathetically. "You're right, I am being stupid." I said as I tried to sound more confident than I actually was. "You can wait in the car if you want and I'll tell them." He said as he walked into the bathroom one last time checking for anything that was over looked. "No, I'll tell them with you." We walked out of his room and down the stairs, Maxie was behind us and when we got to the foyer we all stopped. "I'll go wait out there. I'll put the stuff in the car." She said as she came over and took the suitecase and backpack from Dillon. She walked over to me and hugged me. "Good luck. If you need me to come in and help you out I am just out side the door.." She whispered in my ear. "Thanks." I said as she walked out of the front door quietly shutting it behind her. "Now how are we going to get eveyone here?" I asked looking around at the unusually quiet and settled. "Like this." Dillon said as he cupped his hands over his mouth and shouted. "Who's money is laying out here?" It didn't take long before everyone was running out of their repective rooms at the mention of money laying around. "It is mine. I lost some earlier today." Edward said as he came in quickly from the living room, and I quietly laughed. As rich as Edward was he was so cheap it wasn't funny. Well it was, but it wasn't. "Where is it?" He asked not noticing any money anywhere. "There is no money. I just needed you all in here, I got something I have to tell you all." Dillon started as Ned casually walked into the room. He was standing behind everyone and unnoticed. He looked at me and I guess he could tell how nervous I was and he jut nodded his head. "What is it? You're not in trouble are you?" Monica asked stepping forward. "No, I'm not in any trouble." He said as laced his fingers with mine behind his back. "Is this about what you were talking about yesterday? That nonsense about moving out?" Edward said suspisciously. "Yes, it is...." Dillon started as AJ cut him off. "Well then what is it?" AJ said unpatiently. "I'm trying to tell you." Dillon said with a hint of anger in his voice at them not letting him just come out and say what he had to say. "Would you shut up and listen to him. This is very improtant and hard for him so get over yourselves and shut up!" Ned yelled from behind everyone. As if just noticing he was back there they all turned around and looked at him. "Go ahead Dillon." "Thanks, umm Ned is right. This is very important, and I really thought you all should know." He said as he looked back at me and I squeezed his hand for reassurance. "Almost two months ago we found out that Georgie is pregnant." He said as he paused for some kind of reaction. No one said anything. They all just looked at us like we had grown another head or something. "When we found out, she was already three months along, making her now five months. Almost her second trimester." Still no one said anything. I was almost standing completly behind Dillon but I moved so I could see everyone. I looked around to see if I could tell what everyone was thinking. I couldn't. "Well, umm I don't know exactly what to say." Monica said speaking up first. "Congratulations would be nice." Ned said as he walked around the crowd standing beside Dillon and I. "Congratualtions for what? That he is going to be a father before he turns 20. Congratualtions that he is throwing his life away?" Edward said looking furious. "What the hell are you talking about? I am not throwing my life away. Yea it happened a lot sooner than we ever thought it would, but it was something that I planned on doing none the less." Dillon said becoming frustrated himself. "What has your mother said to this?" Edward asked. "She hasn't said anything because I haven't talked to her yet. Listen we decided to tell you guys out of respect. We didn't want you to find out from some no name on the street. I'd like to know what everyone thinks about this because you are my family, but if you are going to sit here and try to start worrying about me now, don't bother." Dillon said. I knew that it meant a lot to him to have the approval of his family no matter what he says, so I was really upset that they were doing this to him. "Congratulations." Emily said as she came over and hugged Dillon and I. "If you ever need anything or just someone to talk to, you know where to find me." "Thanks Em." Dillon said as he looked truly happy that she was happy for us. "Alan and I will make sure that you have the best doctors that money can buy, don't ever hesitate to stop by and see us." Monica said as she too hugged us and Alan just nodded. "Good luck man." AJ said as he walked up to Dillon and did some kind of hand shake with him, then smiled at me and put his hand on my arm. "Sorry for the reaction. We just didn't expect that." "It's ok. Thanks." I said speaking for the first time. "I can't believe this. You are all pushovers. I can't believe you are just going to congratulate them." Edward said as he looked back and forth between them all. "Grandfather, why do you have to be such a pain in the ass. Don't you see that they just care for them. Yes they screwed up, but look at how they are handling it. They are both so much more mature at their age than any of us ever were. Dillon already has a job working for me and Georgie will work at Kelly's until she is unable to. Why can't you just accept this? They are going to do this on their own but they will need all of our help. Are you willing to never see them or your great-grandchild because you are a jackass?" Ned asked. It was such a relief to have Ned their to back us up. "I will not accept this. If that is what will happen then so be it." He said as he held his head up. "If that is how you feel then that is how you feel." Dillon said. "Thank you guys for understanding what we are going through. We certainly didn't want this to happen this soon, but it has and there is nothing we can do but go with it. Where is Grandmother?" Dillon asked. "In the library." Edward said bitterly as if he had just lost a bet. Defeated. Dillon and I found Lila reading, soft music playing in the distance. I always did like Lila, but who didn't? I think it is safe to say that she was respected and loved by eveyone who knew her. We told her and not-suprisingly she congratulated us and wished us well and we promised to come back and see her frequently. We went back out and Dillon explained to his family about how he was going to stay at my house. They offered me to stay at the mansion but Dillon politely declined saying that I would be more comfortable at my house. After saying bye to everyone, even Edward, Ned followed us outside and we talked for a few more minutes. Then he handed the keys to his new SUV to Dillon. "I'll bring it back once I get enough to get a car of my own, it shouldn't take me that long." Dillon said as he got into the driver's side, me in the passenger seat and Maxie in the back. "Don't worry about it. Consider it my baby gift to you two." Ned said as he smiled and rested his arms on the top of the car. "What?" Dillon said as he looked at me and then back to Ned. "It's yours, you'll need it. It is safe and reliable, so don't mess it up." He said laughing at the look on Dillon's face. "Thanks, I don't know what else to say." He said, speechless from pure shock. "Are you serious?" Maxie said from the back. "Listen don't worry about it. Now go because you have to be to work early in the morning." Ned said as he backed away from the car. Dillon started the car and backed out of the driveway. We watched as Ned waved and then walked back into the house. We all just sat in shock. Shock was the only way to describe what I was feeling at the moment. Things were starting to come together, and nothing was slowing down. And I had a feeling it wouldn't anytime soon. |
