Chapter 8

The offices of ELQ were very typical for a major corporation. They were very professional looking with big leather chairs and solid cherry-wood furniture, but it was also very modern. Ned made sure that ELQ was always up to date with the latest in business advancments in technology. It was very intimidating the first time I came here, not to mention it was my first day of work so the pressure was on. Yet Ned had made me feel comfortable and let me get used to the surroundings. The huge double cherry-wood doors leading to Ned's office were open and I could here him talking on the phone. I stuck my head in and when he saw me he motioned for me to come in and shut the doors.

"I don't care just make sure we get it. How many times do I have to say that money isn't a problem. Give them what they want." Ned said as he rolled his eyes at me, clearly ready for his conversation with whoever was on the phone to be over. "Ok bye."

"Having fun?" I asked smiling at him. He just laughed and shook his head. He took the papers that were laying in front of him and threw them onto a chair not to far from where he sat.

"Fun isn't how I would explain it. More like painfully boring. So what did you want to talk to me about, sorry about the food but I have to eat an early lunch or I won't be able to eat at all we are so full today. You're still working tomorrow right?" He said not really asking if I was working but kind of reminding me as he grabbed some food and a bottle of water out a small refrigerator he had in the corner of his office.

"Yea I'll be here. Umm what I had to tell you was....ok look, Georgie was going to come with me today but I really wanted to be the one to tell you, and to tell you by myself." I started by he stopped me with a wave of his hand.

"What? You're not going to tell me that you two are getting married, right?" He asked in disbelief. I couldn't help but laugh from the sudden color loss in his face.

"Well, no that isn't exactly it." I said as Ned let out a sigh of relief.

"God, you scared me for a minute. I thought you were going to tell me that you were getting married or Georgie was pregnant." He said as he laughed and took a bite of his sandwich.

"Well, the first guess wasn't right but the second one was umm pretty dead on." I said as I looked at him for any reaction. At first he kept eating like he didn't hear what I said but then all of a sudden he started coughing like he was choking on his food. He grabbed his water bottle and drank almost the whole thing. I could tell a million things were running through his mind right now.

"Georgie is pregnant?" Again his statment wasn't a question more of an outloud conformation. All I could do was shake my head and sit up in the chair I was sitting in.

"Yea, almost five months."

"Ummm ok," He said as he breathed in and out a couple times before continuing "Why didn't you tell me earlier?"

"We didn't tell anyone until last night when Georgie told her parents. I wanted to tell everyone but Georgie wanted to wait." I said as I stood up and walked around his office, looking at all the framed pictures on the shelves. I recognized a lot of the people in the photos with him from around Port Charles.

"You didn't say anything for five months?" He asked incredulously.

"No, only a month and a few weeks, we didn't find out till she was three months along." I said thinking back to the day we found out. As scary as it was, I was still very excited.

"Does mom know?" I hadn't even thought about how I was going to tell her. She would probably flip out and hang up on me or something. I would have to tell her in person.

"No, you are the only other one besides Georgie's parents and sister that know. That is why I came here. Georgie and I are going tonight to tell the rest of the Quartemaine's and I wanted you to know first. I am also going to get mt stuff. Felicia offered to let me stay at their house so I can be there to help Georgie, so I will be moving out tonight." I said as Ned sat there. He was trying to get a grip on all the information that I had jut thrown to him.

"That is why Felicia came back. Well I am glad that you came to me first." He said as he puhed a button on his desk that buzzed his secretary. "Haley, I am going to need you to cancel all my appointments for the rest of the day."

"Ok, sure but what about...." She started to say as he cut her off.

"Just tell them that I am sorry and that I will get in touch with them tomorrow to set up another appointment. I have a family emergency to take care of." He said as he stood up and grabbed the jacket to his suit off of the back of his chair and put it on. "I'll go with you to pick up Georgie and I'll talk to Mac and Felicia. Then we'll head back to the houe once you two are ready. You're going to need someone on your side." He said as he sighed and led me out of his office and then got into his car that I had borowed. He must have taken his Jag to work this morning, I never thought to ask if he had another car, that I wasn't leaving him stranded. The whole way over I told him about when we went to the doctors and how I planned to help Georgie and her family out in whatever way possible.

Once we got back to Georgie's house Felicia and Mac were the only ones home, Maxie and Georgie still out walking, I guessed. Once inside we all sat down in the livingroom and I answered all of the questions that everyone had. Mac started to get workd up but Felicia glared at him and then smiled back at me for reassurance.

"Dillon, how about you go for a walk or something and let us talk." Ned said as he turned to me, hinting for me to leave.

"Umm, ok. Maybe I might run into Maxie and Georgie. They should be heading back by now." I said uneasily.

"That reminds me Dillon, Maxie just called before you guys came. They are at Kelly's you might still be able to catch them." She said as I stood up.

"Thanks, I'll call Georgie and see where they are at. Thanks again." I said as looked at each of them.

"I'll pick you guys up at Kelly's ok?" Ned said as I nodded and left. If anyone could calm Mac down right now, it would hopefully be Ned. He was the only one in my family that really got along with Mac. Except for Lila and Emily, and sometimes Monica. He was very good at getting people to see the good in things no matter how bad a situation actually was.
