| Chapter 25 ~~~~~~~~~~Dillon's POV~~~~~~~~~ My head was spinning as I made the short trip down to the maternity waiting room. As soon as everyone saw me they jumped up and huddled around me. "So........?" Emily said impatiently. "How are they doing?" "They're doing great. Georgie is probably already asleep, she was so tired. We got to see the baby for a couple minutes before they took her down to the nursery." I said. "Have you picked out a name yet?" Ned asked as he slipped his arm around Alexis' waist. "Yea, we named her Emma Marie Quartermaine. She is so beautiful. You all can go see her, but they said they are going to let her stay in the room, if you want to wait till then." Just as I finished talking, Grandfather came around the corner wheeling Lila towards us. I walked over and Lila took my hand. "Are we too late? Did she already have the baby?" She asked. "Yes, but the baby is down in the nursery. Her name is Emma Marie Quartermaine." I said as I crouched down to be more at her level. "Oh Dillon, we are so proud of you and Georgie. You will be fine parents." She said as she motioned for Edward "Dear, take me down to the nursery." She said as he quietly followed her instructions. She was the only person who could shut Grandfather up. I stood back up as Ned walked over to me. "Congratulations man." He said as he pulled me into a hug. "Thanks, it still hasn't sunk in yet." I said as Kristina, who was now wide awake, came over to me. I picked her up and she hugged me. "Uncle Dillon, where's the baby?" She asked as she looked around confused. "Well Krissy she is in the nursery. Maybe your mommy and daddy will take you to go see her, I need to go check on Aunt Georgie ok?" I said as I looked at her and admired the innocence and vitality in her. "Ok, give Aunt Georgie a kiss for me." She said as Alexis walked over. "Mommy, we go see the baby now." She extended her arms to Alexis who gladly took her. "Ok lets go see the baby." Alexis said as she stated walking down the hallway "We'll stop back by." Ned said as he quickly caught up with Alexis and Kristina. I talked briefly with everyone that was still there before heading back to the room Georgie was in. When I opened the door the room was almost completely dark except for what little light shown in through the window. Georgie looked so peaceful as she slept. The mere thought that she had just given birth to our daughter was mind-blowing yet humbling none-the less. Just then the door opened reveling my mother standing there, silhouetted by the bright florescent lights in the hallway. I quickly walked over to her. "Mom, you need to go, I am not arguing with you. Not today, you are not ruining this day for me." I said as I motioned for her to go back into the hallway. "Dillon, I'm not here to argue with you." She said as she held her head up high. "You're not?" I asked shocked and in disbelief. "No, I'm not. Listen, the other day after you left from ELQ Ned told me about you and that girl." She said as she pointed to where Georgie was sleeping. "Georgie, her name is Georgie." I said irritated. "He told me about you and Georgie. About how she helped you once I left, and how the two of you really do care about each other. I don't exactly like it, but Ned assured me that she is in this for all the right reasons. Dillon you have always been my pride and joy, I just never showed it. You were and are the most important thing in my life and I felt terrible after what happened in Ned's office. I just came here to apologize and maybe see my granddaughter if you will let me." She said as I tried to absorb everything that she had just said. Never in my life had I ever heard her apologize to anyone. I was half expecting cameras to jump out from around the corners and everyone yell 'gotcha'. "This isn't funny mom. Don't sit here and lie to me just to get me to forgive you." I said in a loud whisper. "I'm not lying, for the first time in my life I am being honest. It will take a while for me to get over this and it will probably take you even longer to trust me again, but I want to try." She pleaded. I was at a loss for words. I've never seen her like this before. "If you are serious mom, then I am willing to try also. But things are different now. I am going to marry Georgie, and I have a daughter now. I'm not just going to fall at your every word." I said as I could feel the wall I had been steadily building towards her, start to fall. "I am serious, you're all I got. Ned will always be my son and I will always love him but it is different with you." She said. "I hope you are." I said as a nurse carefully and slowly wheeled the baby bed that held Emma into the room. "Oh my God, is that her." Mom asked as she bent down and lightly touched the blanket that Emma was wrapped in. "Yea that's her, unless they brought the wrong baby. Do you want to hold her?" I asked as I gently picked up Emma and craddled her to me as I waited for my mom response. "You and your sarcasm, of course I want to hold her." She said as she laid her purse in the chair beside her and I placed Emma in her arms. "What did you name her?" She asked as she swayed back and forth, careful not to wake her up. "Emma Marie Quartermaine." I said proudly. I could tell she wasn't to thrilled about her name but she bit her tongue. "That's a vey....nice name." She said as she looked down at her. Mom stayed for a few more minutes and although we too had a long way to go, I was glad that she was willing to try. I really wanted her to be a part of Emma's life, and mine and Georgie's too. After she left I walked over to Georgie with Emma in my arms. Both were sleeping soundly and both were breathtakingly beautiful. There couldn't have been a luckier person in the world at this moment. Georgie had just given me the gift of a healthy baby girl and no matter what would happen in the future, she would forever be the mother of my daughter and for that I would always love her. |
