| Chapter 22 "Are you sure the baby is coming now?" Ned asked. "Umm well if blinding pain shooting through my uterus means the baby is coming then I would have to say yes." I said as the pain started to cease. "Alright Dillon, take Kristina for a minute. I'm going to go get her into the backseat of my car. You call the hospital and tell them we are on our way and to be ready. You can call Felicia and Mac on the way there." Ned said as he handed Kristina to Dillon and put my arm around his neck and his around my waist. "I can walk, Ned. Thanks though." I said as I laughed and tried to slowly breath and push the pain down. "Yea well we aren't taking any chances." He said as we walked out to his car. It was still sprinkling from the storm, but it had cooled the temperature down, which I was very thankful for. A few minutes later Dillon came back out "I can't call anywhere, there must be a line down or something, but I called on my cell phone." He said as he quickly buckled Kristina into her carseat and got in the back with me. I could feel another contraction building as I squeezed my eyes shut. Dillon noticed and took my hand. "Do you think the roads are cleared out more by now?" He asked Ned as we pulled out of the driveway. "I sure hope so." "Call Mac and my mom." I said through clenched teeth, it took everything in me not to scream. Dillon grabbed his cell phone and started dialing quickly. "Mac isn't answering." He said as he tried to call him again, but still got no reply. "Oh God, well call my mom." I said. "Only about ten more minutes till we get to the hospital, ok. Can you handle that Georgie?" Ned asked looking through the rear-view mirror. "What's wrong Aunt Georgie." Kristina asked in a scared tone. "Don't worry babygirl, I'm fine, but the baby is coming. You're going to get to see the baby today." I said trying to stop her from worrying. "Yay, can we name her Minnie Mouse? She's my favorite?" She asked excitedly. "We'll have to see about that." I said as I laughed at her enthusiasm. "Felicia? Oh thank God. We are on our way to the hospital......yea she went into labor at the house......no Ned is driving, him and Kristina were visiting when it happened......you are? Well just don't run over anybody......she'll be fine just get to the hospital as soon as you can. I will bye." Dillon said as he got off the phone. "What's going on?" I asked as we turned down the road that led to the hospital. "Your mom is stuck in a big traffic jam. She said that traffic was going good when she was coming home but a big semi full of cement over turned and there was like a three-car pile-up. She is stuck right in the middle of it and it doesn't look like it will be clearing out any time soon, but she is trying to get out." He said as yet another contraction hit and I squeezed his hand and bit down on my lip. "Owww." Dillon said. "That aint nothing, don't even start with me." I said as Ned laughed and pulled into the hospital parking lot. Bobbie and Monica ran out with a wheelchair and helped me out of the car and into the wheelchair. Dillon jumped out and Ned said he was going to park the car and call Alexis. "Bobbie? I thought you were at the Brownstone? I thought my mom was with you?" I said as they wheeled me through the revolving doors. "She was, but I got called in because a lot of people were hurt because of the black-out and she left to go home, where is she?" Bobbie asked as she looked back to see if my mom was coming. "She's stuck in traffic, there was an accident." Dillon said as the four of us got into an elevator to go to the maternity floor. "We couldn't get a hold of Mac, I don't know why he wouldn't answer his cell phone." I said as I tried to relax a little before the next contraction hit. "He's here." Monica said as she lightly laughed. "He is?" Dillon and I both asked at the same time. "Yea he was here when you called." Monica said looking at Dillon. "Why didn't you tell me?" He asked relieved. "You didn't even take a breath when you called, I couldn't have gotten a word in before you hung up." She said as I laughed. The elevator doors opened and Mac was standing on the other side pacing infront of the nurse's desk. "Oh Georgie, how are you feeling?" He asked as he crossed the space betwen us in two steps. "Good considering I'm in labor." I said as he bent down and hugged me. "Georgie, just stay right here while I get you checked into a room and contact the doctor, ok?" Bobbie said as she went around the desk. So we sat there and about five minutes later Ned and Kristina walked off the elevator. Kristina wiggled out of Neds arms and ran over to Dillon, who picked her up. "Thanks for bringing her here." Mac said as he stood up and shook Ned's hand. "No problem, I'm just glad it happened before I left. Dillon looked so stunned, Georgie would have had to drive herself to the hospital while telling him to breath in and out." Ned said as he patted Dillon on the back as him and Mac laughed. "Oh gee thanks. It's good to know how you really feel." Dillon said trying to be serious but eventually smiling. "Georgie, we got a room ready for you. The doctor is in delivery right now, she will be a while so I am just going to get you settled in and a nurse will check you out." Monica said as she walked over to us. "Ok, thanks." I said as she wheeled me down to my room, closly followed by Ned, Mac and Dillon who was still holding Kristina. "I'm going to need you to put this on." Monica said as she handed me a hospital gown. "I think this is what I am dreading the most. Screw the pain, these are the ugliest things I've ever seen." I said as I held them up and looked at them. "Believe me, once this baby really starts coming you won't care what you are wearing. I have to get back down stairs but my shift ends in about three hours and I'll be back then." Monica said as she smiled at me and motioned for everyone to clear the room. "Come on guys, go outside for a minute and let her get changed." She said as she pushed them all out of the room. While I was in between contraction I quickly slipped out of my clothes and into the hospital gown and got situated in bed. "Are you decent?" Mac asked as he opened the door a crack before sticking his head in with his hands covering his eyes. "Yea, you can come in." I said as I laughed. They all marched back in and stood around me. "Is there anyone you want me to call?" Ned asked "I'm going to go get some drinks for everyone, want me to call anyone while I'm out?" "Could you call Maxie for me? Oh and call Emily, I promised I would call her." I said as a nurse came in and started hooking me up to a bunch of machines monitoring me and the baby. "Ok, do you want me to tell her not to mention it to anyone else? If not they'll be like vultures on a dead animal, I swear they will." Ned said as he walked over to the door. "That's a nice analogy." I said sarcastically. "No it's ok, she can tell them, they'll find out anyways and I don't want them all mad at me for not telling them." The pain started building back up and Mac and Dillon each took one of my hands. Kristina had fallen asleep on Dillon's shoulder. She looked so cute and innocent. When the contraction subsided he slowly walked over to the small couch in the corner of the room and carefully laid her down making sure not to wake her up. Of course since Monica had been here when we got the room she had insisted on a single that had lots of room and a small couch in it. But I guess that was a good thing considering there would probably, at some point, be a lot of people in here. |
