Chapter 21

"Ned said he'd stop by later, but I'm not to sure about that now. Maybe I should call and see if he needs any help at the office." Dillon said as he grabbed his cell phone again. I picked up my plate beside me and my cup and took them back out to the kitchen. Walking anymore for me seemed to take ages. In the time it took me to walk from the bed to the kitchen and back I could have probably ran around the house five times.

"So what did Ned say?" I asked when I came back out and saw that he was done on the phone.

"He is stuck in traffic right now. He had picked up Kristina when all the power went out and traffic got jammed, but he said it is clearing up and they'll be here in about ten minutes." Dillon said as he came over to me and draped his arms around my waist. "You're not mad at me are you?"

"Nope!" I said smiling up at him.

"Good." He said as he lightly kissed the tip of my nose. "Now I better blow out these candles and put them up before Kristina gets here."

"Yea, I'm going to go get a bowl of Cheez-Its for her, those are her favorite. I've never not had any with me when I've seen her." I said as I pulled out of his arms and hobbled back into the kitchen.

"Ok, but after that, no more getting up. I don't want you to over-work yourself."

"Yes, dear." I said sarcastically. I found a box of Cheez-Its and poured them into a bowl and got some Kool-Aide out of the fridge. "Can you come in here and grab the kool-aide and the cups, you know, I don't want to strain myself." I said as I walked back into the room with the bowl of cheese snacks. I got comfortable on the bed and sat there waiting for Ned and Kristina to arrive. About five minutes later there was a knock on the door. Dillon opened it to be greeted by the squeals of the four year old little girl in Ned's arms.

"Uncle Dillon!" She shrieked as she held her arms open to him. Dillon took her from Ned and carefully tossed her in the air as she giggled, loving the attention suddenly thrusted upon her.

"Hey Krissy." Dillon shrieked copying her enthusiasm and using his nickname for her.

"How are you feeling?" Ned asked as he walked over and gave me a hug.

"Pretty good. Pretty big, but good." I said as I flattened the sheets over my stomach so he could see how big I had gotten.

"You look great. Alexis was going to come but she got backed up. I swear she doesn't know how to turn anyone away when they ask her to be their lawyer. But she sends her love." Ned said as he sat down in the chair beside the couch. Him and Alexis had worked things out and had steadily formed a new solid relationship over the past three years. Things had finally settled down and started working out for them.

"Tell her I said thanks and I'll see her sometime soon. Tell her she can stop by whenever she wants." I said as I looked back over at Dillon who had Kristina high above his head acting like an airplane as he made all sorts of funny noises as she giggled.

"Put me down, see Aunt Georgie." She squealed as Dillon brought her down and placed her on the bed. She stood up on the bed and walked across it carefully so she wouldn't lose her balance. Once she got to me she threw her small little arms around me.

"Hey babygirl. I haven't seen you in a while." I said as I ran my hands threw her long brown hair. She pulled back and looked at me.

"Baby still in there?" She asked pointing to my belly.

"Yea, she is still in there. She has the hiccups, want to feel?" I asked as her eyes got wide and she nodded her head. I took her small hand in mine and placed it on stomach. Her eyes became even bigger as she felt the slight movement. She became fascinated with it and lowered her head down so her ear was resting on the top of my belly. She giggled and jumped when she felt it again.

"That feels funny." She said as she laughed and covered her mouth with her hands trying to hold back her laughter.

"I got you some snacks. Bet you can't guess what they are." I said as I looked over at Ned. He was just sitting there watching everything with a huge smile on his face.

"Cheez-Its?" She asked as she jumped up and down on the bed.

"How did you know?" I asked as I pulled them out so she could see them. "Look what I can do." I said as I placed the bowl on top of my stomach.

"You're silly Aunt Georgie." She said as she reached in the bowl for a handful of the cheese snacks.

"So how much longer you got?" Ned said speaking up while Kristina happily sat down beside me and chomped down on the small cheese crackers in her hands.

"Just under a month. Actually a little less than 3 weeks" I said as I turned on the TV. "Dillon, put in 'Purple People Eaters' she loves that movie." I said as her face lit up but she continued chewing the food in her mouth.

"Purple! Purple!" She chanted.

"I can't believe she is almost here. It doesn't seem like it has been that long." Ned said.

"I know, I am excited, happy, nervous and scared to death all at the same time. Will you all please excuse me, I think the baby is squeezing my bladder." I said as I got up with Ned's help and went to the restroom. Once I returned Kristina was standing against the back of the couch dancing to the music in the movie.

"How did things go with mom?" Dillon asked as I eased myself back onto the bed. He was sitting on the other side of Kristina now.

"The usual. You know how she gets. Drama-queen extraordinare. Once you left I told her that this was something that she had no control over. She is either going to have to suck it up and enjoy it or leave and be bitter." Ned said with a laugh.

"What do you think she'll do?" Dillon asked.

"Suck it up and be bitter. But she is always bitter, so why change now, right?" He asked as they both laughed. We sat there and talked for about an hour until the movie that Kristina was watching was finished.

"Well little one, I think we ought to be going." He said as he picked up a sleepy Kristina. "Say bye to Uncle Dillon and Aunt Georgie." He said as she hugged and kissed us both before they went to the door followed closely by Dillon.

"I'll see you later Georgie." Ned said as I walked up to him and hugged him.

"Ok.....oh umm, wait." I said as I grabbed his arm. A piercing pain split through me as I drew in a sharp breath.

"Are you ok." He asked concerned as him and Dillon looked at me.

"No, she's coming. The baby is coming!" I said as another pain hit me, only this time a little stronger. I grabbed onto Dillon and bit my lower lip so I wouldn't scream and scare Kristina. "And I don't think we have much time."
