| Chapter 18 Everything is white so much so that I can't tell where this place begins and where it ends. I don't even know where I am, nothing is in here to give me a clue to my location. I keep turning around and around but nothing is happening. Then I turn around once more and I see Dillon standing in the middle of this empty room cradling a tiny child in his arms. I look down to my stomach and see that it is comletely flat. No trace of a human life having once been in there, growing. I look back to Dillon. He is wearing all white almost fading into the surroundings, and he is singing to the child in his arms. Our child. He finally notices me standing there. "She is beautiful. Miranda Jean Quartermaine." He says as he looks back down at her and gently runs a finger over her soft cheek. "Don't you want to see her Georgie?" I try to speak but when I open my mouth nothing comes out. So instead I just nod my head. "Well come here." He says as he takes his free hand and extends it towards me. I causiously take one step forward, and as I do so, the room changes. It is now a very soft pink color. So soft it is almost white. I stop and look around confused at why it changed, but I quickly return my thoughts to seeing my baby. I slowly walk towards Dillon and with each step the room turns a deeper shade of red. Once I am within a foot of Dillon still not able to see the baby, the whole room is blood red. I look up and Dillon's outfit has also turned red. I'm so confused, what is happening? "Come on, don't you want to see her?" Dillon asked as he extended his hand once more. I go to take it and just as soon as our hands touch and I am just about to see my baby's face a thick, black cloud swallowed them up. It was so cold it felt like ice had just attached to my body. As the cloud receeds I am all alone again. "Wait come back." I could talk. "No, no don't go. Come back, I want to see her. Let me see my baby. Dillon!" I yelled but nothing happened. "Georgie.......Georgie........come on Georgie wake up." I hear somone yelling as everything turns black. "Georgie wake up." Dillon said as he was standing over me. Mac on the other side, both with concerned expressions on their face. "What...what happened?" I cried as I quickly sat up. "You were having a nightmare." Mac said as he took a few strands of hair that were in my face and tucked them behind my ear. As my eyes adjusted to the room I remembered that I was at my house in the livingroom on the sofa bed. I was bed-ridden by my doctor a month ago. Not wanting to take the risk of my traveling the stairs I was now sleeping on the sofabed, Dillon on the other couch. Just then I looked over at Dillon. He wasn't wearing all white or all red, he was wearing a pair of black drawstring pajama pants and a white wife beater. Nothing like what he wore in my dream. "Are you alright?" He asked, concern filling his eyes. "Where is she?" I pleaded as he looked at me confusion over-taking concern. "Where is who?" He asked as he cupped my face in his hands. "The baby. Where is she?" I said again as tears started sweeling up in my eyes. "The baby is still in you, still in your belly." He said as he took a hand and rubbed my stomach to show that it still held our baby. I looked down at his hands and a sense of calm over came me as the warmth from his touch engulfed me. "Please don't leave me." I said as I looked back over at him. "I'm not going anywhere. I didn't go anywhere, I've been asleep right over there the whole time." He said as he pointed to the other couch. "No, stay here with me, please. I need to know that you are here." I said as I grabbed his hand and held it in both of mine trying to keep him from leaving. He looked over at Mac, who I had forgotten was even there. "Please" I said quietly as I looked over to Mac. He just nodded his head and kissed my forhead. "Are you sure you are all right?" He asked. "Yea, my dream just really scared me." I said as he smiled back down at me and then walked back to his room and shut off the light in the kitchen. As soon as I heard his door shut I threw my arms around Dillon and started sobbing uncontrolably. "Gerogie, what is wrong." Dillon asked as he pulled back so he could look me in the eyes. "You had her." I said "I had who?" He asked confused. "You had the baby. You had her and then just when I got to you and just before I could see her you were gone." I said as I cried harder into his shoulder. "The baby is fine, and I would never take her from you." He whispered into my ear as he tightened his grip on my, protectively. "I know, it just....it scared me." I said as I tried to calm myself down. "Do you think you can go back to sleep?" He asked as I yawned, my eyes felt like they had weights attached to them pulling them down. "As long as you stay here with me." I said as I pulled out of his arms. "I won't go anywhere." He said. I laid down on my side with my head resting on his shoulder as he ran his fingers through my hair. Sleep seemed like both a friend and an enemy at this point. But trying to keep from falling asleep would be a losing battle, so I just wrapped my arms tighter around Dillon as he did the same to me, reassuring me that he wouldn't leave. I curled up closer to him leaving no gaps between us and pulled the blankets up around us as his breathing became more rythmic. I listened to the soft sounds of his breath as he slowly drifted into a peaceful sleep. One I hoped to soon follow. When I woke up the next morning I realized that I was alone. "Dillon?" I said as I sat up on the bed waiting for my eyes to focus. "Hey, I'm right here." He said as I looked over to the other couch where he was sitting tying his shoes. "I didn't want to get up but I have to go to work today, did I wake you up?" He asked as he stood up and walked over to me. He was wearing a pair of tan slacks a blue button down shirt and a tie, well his tie was untied at the moment. "No you didn't wake me up."I said as I ran my hand through my hair in an attempt to comb it out somewhat and curb my nerves. "Ned called and said that he will be finalizing some deal today so we will be pretty busy, I probably won't get home till about five or six. But if you need me or anything just call." He said as he bent down and kissed my forhead before attempting to tie his tie. "Can you get this for me?" He asked after about three failed attmepts. "Sit down." I said as I curled my legs up so he could sit in front of me. "Ned said hi, and he might be by later on once we are done at work. He said he was sorry for not coming by to see you, things have just been really busy and Kristina was sick but is fine now so he hasn't had much time to do anything." Dillon said as he sat down and I started getting his tie straightened out. "Aww, well tell him I said hey, I haven't seen Kristina in a while. I really miss that little girl she is so adorable. He was just over here a couple days ago." I said as I finished his tie and smoothed it out. "Yea well he feels bad if he can't get over here every day. Maybe he'll swing by and get Kristina before he comes over tonight." Dillon said as he stood up and grabbed the keys to the car. "I'll be back later on tonight. Who knows, maybe I can get out for lunch." He came over and I got up on my knees on the bed so I would be level with him and kissed him quickly before he went over to the door. "Mac is at the station and Felicia is over talking to Bobbie but Maxie is still upstairs, call if you need anything. I Love you." He said as he opened the door and looked back to me. "I love you too." I said as he smiled at me before walking out the door. Only one more month before our baby was here and I wouldn't have to be stuck in this bed! |
