Chapter 17

I was the first to see her and I jumped up and quickly walked over to her. "Is she all ight? How is the baby?"

"Georgie and the baby are fine." She said as she smiled at all of us, relief over coming every single one of us.

"Oh thank God." I said as I threw my arms around her, startling her at first "Thank you so much. When can we see her?" I asked when I pulled back.

"You all can go see her now if you'd like. We just got her settled into a room. She'll need to stay here until tomorrow, though" She said as she led us down the hall towards her room.

"What was wrong with her?" Felicia asked as we stopped a few doors down from Georgie. As much as i wanted nothing more than to go see her as soon as I could. I want to know what had caused her so much pain.

"Georgie was experiencing Braxton Hicks Contractions, which have the feel of regular contractions except you are not in labor. She is also very tired. Her body is exhausted, with her being as small as she is and her already being as big has she has gotten her bodu just couldn't handle it. So Dr. Meadows will be talking to you later on tonight, she had an emergency delivery, but she has recommended that Georgie be under bed-rest for the remainder of her pregnancy. And the way things are going a scheduled C-Section might be our best option." Monica said as she looked at each of us for any questions.

"Thank you Monica." Felicia said as they hugged briefly before Monica's beeper went off. She looked down  at it and then back to us.

"I'd love to stay but I have to take this. If someone wants to stay with her tonight, just tell me and I'll let the nurse's know. I'll be back by once I am off duty to check in on Georgie once more." She said as she started backing down the hallway.

"Ok." I said as I took in a deep breath registering everything that Monica had told us before walking towards the room Georgie was in. We all walked in but as soon as I saw Georgie sitting there with monitors reading hers and the baby's vital signs I couldn't help but to shudder. I quickly walked over to her and gently took her in my arms and held her not ever wanting to let go.

"Did we scare you?" She asked quietly against my neck.

"Just a little." I said as I started to laugh. She knew that I was terrified. I got up from the bed and once Maxie had talked to Georgie a little, me and her sat out in the hallway letting Mac and Felicia have some time alone with Georgie.

"What a long day." I said as I slid down the wall and sat on the ground with my head back against the wall behind me. Maxie came and sat down beside me.

"I know, it has deffinatly been very emotional."She said as she just stared straight ahead. I could feel something pocking at the side of my leg and I reached into my pocket and pulled it out. It was the red velvet box that had the ring that I was supposed to have given Georgie inside of it.

"Did she say yes?" Maxie asked as she looked down at the box.

"Yea, she said yes, I just never got the time to give the ring to her." I said as I rolled the box between my fingers before finally opening it. I had had this ring for almost 4 months, but had been thinking about it for a long time. It was a heart shaped diamond with a smaller teardrop diamond on either side on a gold band. It was beautiful but very simple. One I knew Gerogie would love.

"That's a pretty amazing ring." Maxie said as she nudged me with her shoulder pulling me out of my thoughts.

"Well it is for a pretty amazing girl." I said not really to Maxie specifically but to anyone that could hear.

"I still can't believe any of this." Maxie said as she sat there with her arms resting on her knees that were pulled up to her chest.

"Can't believe what?" I asked trying to start a conversation to take my mind off of everything.

"The baby, you proposing, her being in here. I just con't believe it. Can I ask you a question?" SHe asked seriously as she looked at over at me.

"Anything." I said waiting.

"Would you have proposed to Gerogie if she wasn't pregnant?" That question right there would have knocked anyones doubts of Maxie's love for Gerogie out of the park that didn't already know it.

"Yes. I have been thinking about this for a long time. Even before she got pregnant. I was going to, but I knew that everyone would look down on us because we are too young, they would say. So I wanted to wait a little while longer, so she wouldn't feel so obligated to everyone else because of her age. As of late I just felt like I was wasting time. I couldn't wait any longer, I had to ask her. Screw what anyone else thought. We pretty much shot that whole thing when she became pregnant, right?" I said as I laughed for the first time in what seemed like forever.

"Don't worry about anyone else. As long as it is what you and Gerogie want then don't let anyone or anything stop you." She said as she stood up and dusted her pants off. "Want a soda? I'm going to go find a soda machine." She offered.

"Thanks, but no, I'm good. I'm going to wait here until they're done in there." I said motioning with me head to the room behind me.

"Ok, I'll be back in a few minutes." She said as she walked down the hallway and around the corner. Five minutes later Mac and Felicia came out of the room. I jumped to my feet, kind of startling them as they shut the door quietly.

"She fell asleep." Felicia said quietly even thought the door was closed.

"Ok, umm. i was kind of hoping that I could stay with her tonight. If that is alright with you. If not I'll just wait out here." I said pointing to a nearby waiting room.

"No, you can stay. Monica said she is fine and just needs rest, so we are going to go back to the house. I need to get everything ready in her room since she is going to have to stay in bed from now on. We are bringing the bigger TV and the DVD/VCR player up to her room, so you two can watch all those movies that you do. So we are going to be busy, so you go a head and stay with her tonight. I'll be by in the morning to pick you guys up." Felicia said as she looked in through the little window on the door to check on Georgie one more time.

"Ok, thanks. When we get back tomorrow I'll help with anything else that needs to be done." I said as I completely untied the tie around my neck just letting it drape around my neck. "Oh could you do me a favor?" I asked

"Sure, what do you need?" Mac asked looking around "Where's Maxie?"

"She went to get a soda. Could you stop on the way back home and get my car? I left it there when I rode here in the ambulance." I said as I got the keys out of my pocket and handed them to Mac. "Tell Maxie she can drive it back if she wants." I knew Maxie would love to drive it, she has wanted to ever since Ned gave it to me, but I had always teased her telling her that she could once she learned to drive better.

"Ok, I'm sure she'll love that. What about the gazebo? I'm sure we can't leave it covered in lights all night. That's kind of a fire hazard." Mac said as he lightly laughed.

"I'll call Gradfather and have him send out someone. I'd do it myself but that really isn't that improtant to me right now, and you guys have enough to do. I'll just pay the guy double for doing this for me." I said as I rubbed my temples. I hated having people pick up after me.

"Ok, we'll see you tomorrow, try to get some sleep, Georgie will probably be out for the rest of the night." Felicia asked as she hugged me. "Thanks for taking care of her."

"Thanks for giving me the chance."I said as they walked down the hallway that I told them Maxie had gone down. I slowly turned the doornob and quietly walked in the room. Georgie was asleep, she looked like an angel. For the next hour I just sat there and watched her sleep. She looked so peaceful for what she had just been through.

"Dillon?" Monica whispered as she came in the room, letting her eyes adjust to the darkness.

"Over here." I said as I looked up at her. She smiled and walked over to me.

"I'm getting ready to go home. Is there anything you need?" She asked as she looked down at Georgie sleeping and tucked a piece of hair behind Georgie's ear.

"I need Grabdfather to send someone out to the Gazebo in the park to clean it up. I would, but I am kind of busy." I said motioning towards Georgie.

"Ok, is there anything else." She asked as she walked back to the door.

"Not that I can think of."

"Well if you need anything just call. Are you staying here tonight?" She asked as she opened the door.

"Yea, I'm staying here. I'll call if I need anything. And thanks." I said as I yawned. The stress and emotions were finally catching up with me.

"You welcome. I'll have someone bring up something for you to lay on." She said as she walked out the door and quietly shut it behind her. As I sat there and watched Georgie sleep I silently thanked God for getting me to her those years ago. For giving us the gift we would be getting in little under two months, and thanking him for allowing me to realize what I had and how lucky I really was.
