Chapter 16 {Dillon's POV}

"I can't believe it!" Georgie squealed as she kissed me for what seemed like the twentieth time in just a few minutes.

"Well believe it." I said as I ran my hands over her hair and looked deep into her eyes. She looked like she was going to start crying again, but in her eyes I could see trust and love, emotions I had hoped to see.

"Oh my gosh, I have to call my parents." She said as she stepped back and reached into the pocket of her jacket and pulled out her cell phone. Before she could dial any numbers I lifted the phone out of her hands and slipped it into my front pants pocket. "Hey!" she said as her eyes sparkled from the lights, and from sheer happiness.

"They already know."

"They do?" She asked shocked.

"Yea, well Mac knows, I asked him today after we got done getting all of this ready and once everyone else was gone. I asked for his permission, in an atempt to do the right thing and put my foot in the door to his good side." I said some what embarassed as I looked down at my feet.

"You asked Mac?" She asked as she put her hands on the side of my face raising it so our eyes meet.

"Yea, we talked and kind of smoothed things out between us. We both got to say what was on our minds, which I think was what needed to be done a long time ago. But yea, I asked him and I am sure he mentioned it to Felicia. She kept giving me a funny look just before we left. She almost looked like she was going to cry. I kind of felt bad, but couldn't say anything......" I said just as Georgie giggled. I looked back over to her. "What's so funny?"

"You are rambling. You're so nervous right now that you are just talking and talking." She said as she stepped closer to me.

"Well you know....." I went to say but she silenced me with another kiss. Not about to protest, I simply fell into the kiss as my head started to spin. Georgie's arms tightened around my neck and she leaned into me like she was loosing her balance. "Am I making you weak in the knees." I asked against her lips.

"Not quite Romeo." She said as she pulled back and I opened my eyes to see a pained expression across her face.

"What's wrong." I asked as she slowly started to sink to the ground. I put my arms around her waist to help hold her up.

"I don't know, but it is something about the baby. Something doesn't feel right." She asked as she pinched her eyes shut and sucked in her breath. She grabbed fistfuls of my shirt and burried her head into my shoulder breathing heavily. I felt her sinking again and this time I didn't try to hold her up, I just guided her to the ground following her the whole way down. Once we reached the floor she was curled up in my lap clutching he stomach. I didn't know what to do, a million things were running through my head. I tried to figure out what I had to do first but my mind was blank.

"I'm calling the hospital." I said as I reached into my pocket and grabbed Georgie's cell phone that I had just placed there not five minutes ago. I quickly dialed numbers on the key pad. Everything was blurry from the blinding fear that was serging through my body that I don't even know how I dialed the right number. "Hello, hello! I need an ambulance.......my fiance is pregnant and she is in pain.....a little over seven months.......were at the park by the hospital, on the west side in the gazebo. There are lights and balloons all around it, they shouldn't miss it......ok I won't move her, just hurry up." I said in a panic.

"Dillon, what's happening?" Georgie asked breathily. She now had sweat beads forming at the top of her forhead and tears were still falling down her cheeks. But these weren't tears of joy, they were tears of pain, fear and uncertainty.

"I don't know, but don't worry, you and the baby will be fine. I promise." I said knowing full and well that that was a promise that I shouldn't be making, but I needed to reassure her, and myself that everything was going to be all right. Within five minutes I could hear the sirens of the ambulance followed closely by three EMT's quickly rolling a stretcher around the corner. After spotting us they wheeled the stretcher as close to the gazebo as they could and then one of the men came up to us.

"Sir, I need to get her onto that stretcher." The man said as he went to pick Georgie up. She tensed in my arms when he reached down for her.

"I'll get her." I said kind of harshly. I knew that he was just doing his job but I didn't want him to touch Georgie. So I put one arm under her knees and the other around her back and slowly stood up. She wrapped her arms around my neck as I walked carefully over to the stretcher and gently laid her down on it. She laid back and they pulled a blanket up to her chest and strapped these seat belt-like things around her and brought her around to the awaiting ambulance and put her in.

"Dillon, don't leave me." She cried painfully as she reached her hand out towards me. I looked over at the EMT and he nodded his head giving me approval to get in. They closed the doors as soon as I got in and took off. I sat down on the seat beside the stretcher and held her hand, knowing and fearing that there was nothing else that I could do except to tell her that everything would be alright.

"Dillon, call my mom and Mac." She said sounding like she was about to go to sleep. I clumbsily took the phone back out of my pocket and dialed the familiar number.

"Hey Georgie how did everything go?" Felicia's joyful voice flooded through the ear piece. At first I was suprised that she knew this was Georgie's phone I was calling on but then I remembered that they had Caller ID.

"No, it's Dillon."

"Dillon, whats wrong. Something is wrong I can hear it in your voice, what is it? Is Georgie ok? Are you ok?" She asked in a panic.

"It's Georgie, we are just getting to the hospital. You need to get over here quick." I said as I closed the phone, not being able to say anything else.

"We're here." The EMT said as they all got around the stretcher holding Georgie getting her ready to be brought into the hospital. I just sat there feeling helpless and watched them work quickly. The driver ran around and opened the back doors flooding the dim interior with light. He reached up and guided the stretcher out of the ambulance, the whole time Georgie laid on it maoning in pain. I ran in with them down the long hallways and for a minute it was like I was in one of the countless movies that Georgie and I had watched. It was almost sureal. The first person I spotted was Monica. She seen me just as we came around the corner and ran over seeing Georgie lying on the stretcher.

"We need to get her into an examining room now." She said as she started to run along beside me. I explained to her what happened and they took Georgie through these two huge swinging doors and Monica stopped me. "I need you to stay out here, Dillon." She said as she looked me up and down, confusion of all sorts showing on her face.

"I can't leave her." I said out of breath.

"Dillon, you have to stay out here. Now I promised that I would have the best doctors for Georgie and I will, now you have to let me go do my job. She will be ok, now go sit down. I'm sure you've already called her parents?" She questioned looking at me, I just nodded my head. "Ok, wait for them out here and I will tell you what is going on as soon as I know. You have to trust me." She said as she bent down a little to meet my gaze.

"Dillon!" I heard Mac yell as he ran off the elevator. Monica looked at me and then to them before quickly running through the double doors that had just consumed Gerorgie. I slowly turned around to where Felicia, Mac and Maxie were standing a few feet away from me. They all had terrified looks on their face. "Dillon, what happened?" Felicia asked walking up to me and held me at arms length.

"We were standing in the gazebo and, and Georgie kissed me and then I felt her leaning on me and when I looked at her she looked like she was in pain. Then she sank to the floor and said something was wrong with the baby. Then I called......I called for an ambulance and they came and got her....I, I rode in the ambulance with her and called you. We just got here. Monica is in there with her right now." I said knowing that tears were falling down my face but not caring who saw it. I didn't care who saw me crying, all I cared about was Georgie and our baby.

"Dillon, I'm so sorry, come here." Felicia said as she wrapped her arms around me and after a few seconds I couldn't hold it in any longer and I just started sobbing. This couldn't be happening. WHY was this happening, especially to Georgie. If anything I should be the one hurting right now.

"Why did it have to be her." I said as I became very upset and pulled away from Felicia. "Why does she have to be in pain? Why not me? I'm the one that deserves to be in pain not her." I said looking at them and then started pacing. They just stood there not knowing what to say.

"Dillon don't say that." Maxie yelled as she ran up to me. "No one should be in there. You don't deserve it anymore than Georgie does." She looked like she was about ready to either start balling or hit someone. Sadness and anger was flowing through her like it was flowing through me.

"Well I would be in there in a second if it meant she wouldn't be." I said as I walked over to the waiting area and sat down in a chair putting my head in my hands.

"We all feel that way." Mac said as they all came over and sat down in various chairs around me.

"Did Georgie's water break?" Felicia asked meakly.

"No, she was in a lot of pain, but her water didn't break." I said quietly.

"Good, that means that the baby isn't necessarily coming." She said as she let out a smell sigh.

"Monica is in their with her. She said she was going to have the best doctors for Georgie, she promised me." I said as I looked at Felicia and then to Maxie and Mac tring to convince them that Georgie was being taken care of. I felt like I owed it to them.

"I know, Dillon. I know she is being taken care of. I don't doubt that. It might have just been a bad case of false labor. Just calm down ok?" Felicia asked as I sat back up and loosened the tie around my neck. It felt like it was cutting off all circulation to my head.

"I can't let her see me like this." I said as I ran my hand over my face trying to 'wipe' the worry off of it. We sat in the waiting room talking, about every possible thing that could have caused this for about 30 minutes before Monica finally came back.
