Edwin Wm. Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Smith, of Somerset, who about two years ago joined the H.M.S. Sirius as cooks-mate, and later was paid off in England having joined H.M.S. Aboukir as Wardroom Cook went out to the North Sea to do duty . Just four weeks before the srious disaster to his ship he wrote his parents that he was in the guardship "Aboukir" in the North Sea and that before leaving England he had to give to the authorities the name and address of his nearest of kin in the event of any serious happening.
