Extended
Health Benefits Open Season
In last issue my confusion concerning the fact Blue
Cross Blue Shield made changes of some benefits
for next year and the price increase in the plan. One
such controversial issue is the addition of a $7,500
co-pay for out of network surgeries which has opened
up a great deal of feedback to OPM.
In response, I have been informed OPM has asked
Blue Cross and all FEHB carriers to re-evaluate their
benefits for non-emergency surgeries. I am not sure
how we should get any changed information from the
carriers in a timely manner, but;
The confusion has led to the necessity of having the
Open Season enrollment period  extended through
December until the first of January to allow sub-
scribers to make more informed decisions. This
applies to:
 Health insurance (FEHB)
 Dental and Vision Insurance (FEDVIP)
 Flexible Spending Account (FSAFEDS)
Now, that brings on another issue. I have talked with
the OPM Retirees Information Office at number
1-888-767-6738 ext. 3919 and they feel as long as
they have been notified by Dec. 31 the changes can
take place without problems for the regular January
4, 2009 new enrollment period.
++ Please do your own investigating for your own
needs by contacting OPM yourself as the effective
dates of the belated change will vary among the
programs.
I am still confused.

I appreciate all the effort that you put into creating
the web pages. It is great to read what is happening
with people you have worked with in the past years.
It is also nice to know that someone else appreciates
Thanksgiving, and what it truly means. It is cold
here, but it will be in the 60s by this afternoon. Back
to shorts. Rescue Tech training tonight. We will be
training on the Res-Q-Jacks for victim extrication. I
do not know how much longer I can hang in there
with the Fire Department, but I am working out and
keeping the weight down. This area is a great place
to retire, and there is plenty of things to get involved
with. Take care, and have a great Holiday.
