by Putride, again...
this could take ages although we've only been together sonce august 1999 and I'm the kind of guy who likes content on a website, so this means this bio will take lots of time to read and write. My philosophy is content above fancy internet crap-tech lame graphics and other shite that shows lack of interest or true intentions.
First, I'm totally behind anything we say, do and record, no matter if it's serious or a joke. I think that the band's name shows that we're not your typical grindgorenoiseshitthrashcoremetalcrustpunk pretentious outfit. So you might rarely see any over-used, old and tired "gore" images and comments that have pretty much lost their shock effect since everyone has ripped it off. GPM means spitting what you have inside in people's face, not trying to be part of a "scene" where too many bands have the same image and sound. I'd rather release interesting stuff that sounds like total shit for myself than try to sell it out by using generic topics and the very common links to old gore movies, etc.
When we started this fucken band, we didn't really know anything about "grind" or whatever. In our hometown (Maniwaki), all you got is MTV-like shit and national tv and radio along with contry music, cows and like-minded local radios. This means that only the mega trends make it to the people over there. No wonder we were never able to play a show there, except for the botched gig in march 2001, where it was just like rehearsing in a different place (I'll explain it all later).
It turns out we are more akin to "grindcore" than anything else, although we have a bit of everything in our music ranging from old-school punk to death metal, and everything that comes in between. This means anything that comes to mind, like hardcore, black metal, noise, rock 'n' roll and all that over-labeled music.
1999 august 10-12 me and Insain hook up in my basement to record a bunch of songs. All we have is a guitar, mic and drums. I have lyrics but no music has been composed. In total, ten songs are recorded on my cheap-ass ghetto blaster but two days later, we decide to add more songs. Insain brings his brother (Misérable) along and we try him as vocalist. The rest of the day is spent recording with him as our lead vocalist. It is only later that evening we pick Gut Puking Motherfuckers as our project's name and the tape becomes "Necrosmasher". Initially, this is supposed to be the only thing ever done by this "band without a bass".
OCTOBER 15 we have decided to create a new recording, to have one record with Misérable present on all songs. Again, I had all the lyrics ready. In five hours "Post Nuclear Winter" is ready. We decide the same nigt that we'll make GPM a real band, or try to...
At that moment, we were supposed to have General Turbinca with us to record but due to reasons he would kill me for saying, e couldn't make it. He had been unofficially made a part of the band.
All the material is fucking sloppy and we enjoy it that way. That was the intention. What can you expect from a bunch of Maniwaki guys calling themselves Gut Puking Motherfuckers who enjoy drinking beer and various other alcohols and smoke weed dammit?
MARCH 2000 now we've tried lots of things, but all always failed. I have to say I was going to college near Ottawa, so organizing shows never worked and lots of misc. crap happenned between october and march.
Now, we managed to reunite, along with Turbinca and Paul from our other band Les Sadiques Rayés to record our new tape entitled "Grotesque". It was all grotesque indeed, nothing worked out as planned. NOTHING. Technical problems, having to take walks to replace cords, etc etc. My bass drum pedal died and I had to tape it up. The sound of the whole thing, recorded on a 4tracker was more than shitty. It was (and still is) a real septic piece of slimy worthless bullshit. So it was never released.
I even got a friend (with whom I have recorded a Larves Consanguines noise-weird tape) to try to remix and remaster the fucken thing and it was just as bad. I still own the master tapes and we'll probably use them as demos when we decide to redo the whole thing from scratch.
Overall, "Grotesque" is probably the most violent, hateful and negative GPM rcording we ever made. The frustration of the day comes out crystal clear while the sound is a total waste. It would have been good to record it on ghetto-blaster at the same time, but the violence of it all would not have been as masive and downright honest.
DECEMBER 2000 we have had our share of shit in the band, as well as our own damn lives but we kept going. No shows, no promo, no distro, nothing. Just a cheap website I had created with the great patience and help of J-F Pohu, head of Foot Software and great friend.
We got together, with General Turbinca and a guy who became our bass player that same night. Oubacanaboo joined us for a dozen of songs on "Cocktail Party". This record is also a split with Tony Bermuda Trio. It is also a night where all went weirdly. We were pretty much all hammered, especially Turbinca, who was having fun doing vocals, drinking and having fun with razor blades on himself at the same time. We also have a misc. individual who can be heard screaming on almost all the songs and it's very irritating. It's almost impossible to enjoy this record. That alone made it a reason good enough to do a split with Tony Bermuda Trio.
We also did a fucking duet with these bastards, called "Take this chainsaw and shove it". It makes you want to smash the tape or cdr to bits before even listening to their side of the deal. In all, we have 18 tracks plus the "Chainsaw" thing on this.
Overall, it is a shit-grind type of record. Only a couple of tracks are real songs, like the re-recordings of "Hurlement au nord" and "Necrosmasher".
MARCH 2001 we got at Oubacanaboo's place and recorded new stuff. The result was to be released as "Forest of the rotten" but this tape is damn confusing, the basement-recorded tracks are added to the live gig we recorded just the day after doing the 7 "Forest" tracks. This time, it was more thrashing and black metal than all we had done before, which is pretty good.
The fucking gig went like total crap. First, the gig had been cancelled a few days (or hours?) before it would take place, then, on the same day, we got a call saying there would be a GPM show. It's not hard to believe the whole fucking place was deserted when we came in. It was just like rehearsing the "Forest" stuff in a bigger place. Anyways, it's not bad when you listen to it on tape. It has something funny to it: it reminds me very much of Mayhem's "Live in Leipzig" atmosphere were it sounds like an empty place with people who don't really care for the band.
JUNE 2001 Ouch... General Turbinca surfaces again from the underworld and we have a sort-of rehearsal with new songs that end up on a tape and on video. The thing is: our bass player is not around and we're drunk. You get the picture. It's almost like a "Cocktail Party take two". In the end, the tape sounds like crap since we can't hear guitar and sometimes the vocals just aren't there.
However, scenes from this moment have been kept on the video and it's amazing to see the empty bottles accumulate on the table as this part of the video progresses. One song will be rerecorded eventually, and it is a funny piss-take at pop-dance stuff called "Under the GPM Banner". That song is on the video and sounds ok.
JULY 2001 We decide it's time to rearrange the oldest songs and so we record "100 Megatons of nuclear gutpuke", which is made of songs from "Necrosmasher" and "Post Nuclear Winter". Overall, it sounds better and there's bass on it. Some songs are slightly modified, always for the better, others are very similar but with entirely new lyrics. These should be considered as the official versions of these same songs. This two-day recording session is also on video.
Later that same month, Turbinca again makes an appearance on a few new songs that are truly drunken rock 'n' roll / grind. With titles such as "Keep on puking" and "Chunky Slaughter", it gives you an idea of the product. These haven't been released or set to a definitive recordings and actually sleep on tape. They will all appear on the GPM compilation "Bloodstained Memoirs" along with other misc. material we have recorded here and there.
WINTER/SPRING 2002 We started working on the "Plagues" material which is an album we have planned for a long time. Since I was away, it was another long time before we'd do anything. Anyways, the guys were busy with a completely different band.
WINTER-SUMMER 2003 This is when we started really working on the "Plagues" material. We managed to record a few sessions that include some of the new songs and much older songs we rerecorded. The whole thing has a better sound in general. We fuck up a lot and you can hear all the mistakes and errors on the cd. This is to be put out as "Storm Of Blaze: The Plagues Sessions". There is a lot of other songs to work on for "Plagues", so these versions are demos of what will be the final record.
FALL 2003 Goddamn... We recorded a second split with Tony Bermuda Trio in Montreal. This one is much more interesting in my opinion than "Cocktail Party". It is called "Crossfire" since we cover some of their stuff and they butcher some of our songs by playing them unplugged...ouch! I'll never see "Necrosmasher" the same way ever....Operatic vocals and shit. Each band also plays a few of their own songs, so it's pretty cool. The weirdest thing is that all was recorded on a ghetto blaster but sounds better, in my opinion, than most of our previous material!
THAT'S WHERE WE'RE AT RIGHT NOW (February 2004)
