Normally, or, at least how I *believe* it to be, people all over the place listen to different stuff at different times. You've always got your favorite band, but you also have your favorite bands and songs of the moment.

So, with that in mind, that's what this section is for. Suggested listening, according to what I've been listening to lately. It might seem a bit odd when you read it at times, because the songs may not go together.

Believe me when I say, this is normal for me.

Shall we continue?

Good.

Songs

Informatik - the world belongs to us

I am usually easily bored with what I refer to as 'generic EBM'. A lot of the time, I'll get a record from a kid that's just started his own musical project, or I'll get a record from Metropolis records, and be a bit disappointed by what I hear. These songs are usually your standard 4/4 untz beat, an arpeggiated synth line, bass synth line, a few layered hi hats or whatever.
With that being said, I almost was disappointed when I first heard this track. I am normally *not* a lyrics person; I am more impressed by good music, opposed to good lyrics. However, in this case, both things seemed to go together to make a good track.
It's rare that you find socially aware or politically aware groups, and this song is definitely that. I don't know anything about this group, but this song definitely is those things. The lyrics deal with being aware of the decay of our environment to the issue of 'long ago...a choice was made...a few would rule...the rest obey...'
I don't really read other DJ's setlists very often, but it wouldn't suprise me to be seeing it on many different playlists. I hope other people are enjoying this track as much as I am.

Revolting Cocks - crackin' up

I find it hard to believe that there are people that *don't* like this song. It's a very silly, funny song...but not in the annoying Adam Sandler sort of way. Many people have pointed out that the song and the video remind them of Public Image Ltd....though, since I'm unfamiliar, I can't make the connection. It's one of those 'fun' sort of industrial songs, done only as RevCo can do! This band screams debauchery, parties, and fucking shit up. Gotta love it. On a special sidenote, be sure to check out a tour diary written during one of the RevCo tours by Alternative Press writer Jason Pettigrew
here.

Velvet Acid Christ - pretty toy

I'm a sucker for a breakbeat, especially slow ones that scream sexy! I wasn't a VAC fan until recently...a kid came up to me at the club I DJ at and said 'do you have any VAC?' I tell him 'no, just the stale songs that everone knows...' He replies 'gimmie a week, I'll bring you every album'.
Thinking this kid is full of shit, I blow it off and continue on with my night. Sure enough, 2 or 3 weeks later, this guy's got a plastic bag *full* of VAC albums, just for me. Needless to say, I got to hear their entire library, and was supremely impressed.
That being said, let's discuss the single 'pretty toy'. This song takes a minute to get where it's going...(for some reason, electronic artists, myself included, make intros that are way too long for their/our own good) but when it kicks in, man, it's hot. It's a very twisted song, as are most VAC songs, but, unlike most wanna-be artists that try and come off as fucked up in the head or just being twisted, VAC is for *real*, and this song is a prime example of that. Twisted lyrics, excellent music, and fight club samples! Could you ask for more?

Void Stares Back - evergrey

It's very rare that an underground/local artist or band can come along and wow you. VSB did exactly that. With their demo, this two piece group managed to show exactly what they can do.
'Everygrey', the starting off song from their demo is absolutely amazing. It's goth that hasn't gone bad, stale, and it's not cliche', in any sense of the word.

Ministry - warp city

I love Ministry. I've loved Ministry for a while. That being said, here's some thoughts on 'warp city', a song off their recently released album 'Houses of the Mole'
I've been describing this song as 'burning inside, version two', because it has a similar feel. Take 'jesus built my hotrod' and 'burning inside' and speed them both up, and you get 'warp city'. Need I write more?

Album

Alec Empire - Intelligence and Sacrifice

This album kicks fucking ass. This album is an even blend of Digital Hardcore, metal, hip-hop, (old school style, that is) industrial, breakcore/speedcore, and about 100 other excellent genres. From ultra fast songs like 'tear it out' to slowed down, heavy but hot songs like 'New World Order' and 'addicted to you', everyone can enjoy this album. Pop it in the car CD player and you can more than likely please everyone in the car with most of, if not all of this album. A definite fucking winner in my book.
