L'absence de Geneviève Jeanson
du Grand Prix cycliste international féminin

L'absence de Geneviève Jeanson et de Sue Palmer-Komar du Grand Prix cycliste international féminin a, bien sûr, été l'objet de plusieurs commentaires.

Rob Jones indique entre autres : « Bessette was somewhat critical of both Palmer-Komar and Genevieve Jeanson for missing the GP Feminin. "I think it would have been good if they were both here. It is the last chance to be together, to race together before Worlds. I think the CCA should make riders participate in projects like this, so close to Worlds. We only get one chance to race together (before Worlds) and this would have been a good one. »

Why no Rona

at the GP Feminin ? Worlds in just over 2 weeks ? You would think they would be there !

All of the other members of the national team are there and are racing together as a team in prep for Worlds. Another example of the attitude of team RONA and Aubut...

Why no Genevieve Jeanson

Rona should not be at the Grand Prix but Genevieve Jeanson should be there with the others members of the National Team. How could we have a real team when one of its members is always training alone. Andre prefers to isolate her from the others. It's a lack of respect to the others girls. It's time for racing now and not for training. GJ didn't race since June (Green Mountains was a Cat 3 race). Anyway, Nicole Cooke gave a big lesson of cycling to GJ this year and she will go on at Hamilton. Don’t tell me that GJ won in Montreal. That's true but the girls let her go because they knew that it would have no influence on the final result of the World Cup. I think that GJ is a great racer but she needs some big changes for the next season.

GJ can only race when she has her radio in her ear and Andre is screaming instructions at her. Cooke is a real racer who can read a race and go with guts. At only 20 years old, she is the future. I hate to be down on a Canadian who has so much talent, but I also hate to see such waste.

They didn't "let GJ go" - GJ dropped them up Mont Royal. I was there -- it was impressive.

GJ raced Altoona too. Would have won if she hadn't attacked in the first k of a 150k race, but anyway.

Why is everyone so critical of everyone in this stupid country ?

So because she is Canadian, we cannot criticize her ? or rather her handler ? She has the potential to be phenomenal, and Aubut is holding her back.

GJ rarely races. When she does, it is on selective courses where she can almost guarantee a win. When she races, she has an ear piece and Aubut screams at her from a following race car (been there, seen it). I personally witnessed him throw his radio at her and hit her (after her loss to Hughes at the 2000 Nationals) and all the time he was berating her for her ride. If that is not abuse, I don't know what is. Anyone deserves better than that.

Yes she won Montreal, but the stakes were higher on Cooke, who was there to protect her overall in the World Cup and, as such, was watching her rivals, not GJ.

I think Hamilton will be another disappointment for GJ. It is a power course and as such she will require the support of her teammates (where is she when the team is spending time prepping for worlds ?) and a lot of luck. She is not a power rider and not a team player. 2 strikes against her. And Aubut will not be allowed to be in the Canadian team car. He was not allowed in Belgium last year either and I believe that GJ was not injured as badly as was let on, but withdrew because Aubut was kicked out of the car and pulled out in a hissy fit.

I wish GJ luck and would like to see a Canadian win but there are a lot of other bike riders out there who could steal the show.

Nicole is obviously a favorite but not in isolation.

GJ is not a bike rider. She has no interest in the sport other than her own agenda. I fail to understand her. Most people just want to race and race and race. All she does is train. It's insane. Sorry but no admiration there at all.

As for Montreal, I think the US and Euro teams worked it out and let her have an easy win. Then the World Cup began in ernest.

Sorry but no admiration for the last post, it's pure futility. Que de temps perdu à dire des niaiseries. GJ sait beaucoup mieux que vous ce qu'elle a à faire, que vous l'admiriez ou pas.

So what ?
September 24, 2003 at 20:33

She races enough.

So what if she likes riding her bike ? wtf is wrong with that ? Wouldn't that make her a lover of the bike ?

GJ is one of the sweetest, kindest, selfless people I have ever met. There's a lot of media and misreporting about her, most likely due to AA. who is eccentric, to say the least.

How can you find out - Just talk to her
September 25, 2003 at 0:44

I think JG is a really good racer. I like her style. She works hard on the bike. Very discipline. I do not know her coach. I just hope all these stories are not true about him. That would be too bad for such a talented person as her. And I agree with the other poster. She is a sweet, kind person. She is actually very nice when you talk to her. She is very charismatic. I enjoy watching the women's races.

Good luck to all the Canadian women.

Why no Palmer

Hey in your attempts to bash... why isn't Sue Palmer racing... when her team is ??? Why isn't Petra Rosner ??? and where is COOKE ? Must be her handlers wouldn't let her...

If the peanut gallery wants to throw, then pull out the whole bag...

You know what. It does not matter to me whether GJ has been racing lately. She has picked her races carefully. She has her eyes on the Worlds. What is wrong with that ? I rather her be focused on this. A lot of cyclists do this. They chose their events that they want to peak for. Lance mainly focuses on the Tour. He does not race everything everyone else races. He is not doing the Worlds. So are not a lot of other races. They have had a different direction. GJ direction is the Worlds. There is nothing wrong with that. I hope she does really well here.
