Wallbangers Streak to Title

The Lincoln Wallbangers, hot off a 22 game winning streak (final 10 regular season games and three playoff sweeps) went through the 2003 post-season barely breaking a sweat.
The same team that went from a 5 1/2 game lead to third place, 3 games out, during a 14 game losing streak in mid June.
A team who lost the season series with the Comets 8-4, man handled them during the GPBL World Series.
Making their first ever World Series appearance, They wasted little time against the Comets, who were making their record setting eighth appearance in the "Fall Classic". Curt Schilling pitched a complete game 3 hitter for a 9-1  win.
In game 2, Mark Prior pitched 5 innings to get the win. Miguel Tijada slammed his second home run of the series to lead the Wallbangers to a 5-2 victory and 2-0 sereis lead.
Game 3  the Comets had things going their way on the road. However a 4-2 lead going into the bottom of the ninth wasn’t good enough as relievers Eddie Guardado and Scott Williamson combined to give up 3 runs in the bottom of the ninth for the loss.
Game 4 went much the same way as game 3, as the Comets held a lead late in the game only to have Guardado and Williamson blow it giving up 4 runs in the bottom of the eight, giving the Wallbangers a 7-5 win and the 2003 GPBL Championship.
"I am very disapointed in my bullpen", quoted Comets manager Greg Kavan, "It has been a weakness of this team all year. Never was a lead safe."
Wallbangers manager Mark Levenhagen had nothing but praise for his team.  " We were a team of streaks. Luckily we got hot at the right time and stayed hot.  We were a team that was 76-76 with ten games to go.  We won our last 10 regular season games to get that first round bye, and our momentum carried us right through the playoffs."
