"Growing Pains" star Tracey Gold celebrated her final victory over anorexia by giving birth to a healthy, beautiful baby she once feared she'd never have.
"He's the joy of my life," Tracey told the ENQUIRER.
The plucky actress and her husband Roby Marshall are the proud parents of an 8-pound, 10-ounce son, Sage Gold Marshall.
"For two years Tracey tried unsuccessfully to become pregant," revealed a freind. "Her doctors gave her little hope. They told her she didn't have enough body fat to conceive."
A woman's body must have a18 to 22 percent fat to produce the hormones that allow her to become pregnant and carry her baby to term, according to experts.
Tracey maintained a healthy weight during her pregnancy. She told me she'd put on 22 pounds," said her freind. "Roby was with her in the delivery room the entire time, wiping her brow and telling how much he loves her. After a seven-hour labor, she gave birth to a healthy baby."
Tracey calls Sage her "little miracle baby," revealed her freind. "She says, "This is the best thing that ever happened to me. I haven't felt this great in years.
"'Sage is the most beautiful baby in the world. And best yet, having Sage has helped me turn the page on my past troubles. I'm confidnet I've beaten anorexia once and for all!'"
The new addition - who arrived February 16 - is the best present ever for a couple who have known much tragedy.
Not only did the 5-foot-3 actress - caught in the grip of anorexia - watch her weight plummet to a frightening 86 pounds, but her husband Roby lived through his own nightmare. His father hired a hit man who killed his mother in 1984.
Ironically, it was the Tv mini-series "Blind Faith" - a recreation of htis celebrated murder case - which brought Tracey 27, and Roby, 31, together.
Tracey's "Growing Pains" co-star Joanna Kerns starred in the show and she introduced Tracey to Roby, who was a technical adviser on the set.
Things couldn't have worked out better. A delighted Tracey told her freind" "We're so happy with our little bundle of joy that we plan to ask Joanna to be his honorary godmother. If it weren't for her, I wouldn't be hugging Sage now!" -PATRICIA TOWLE
